The Goon Vs. Heroes and Villains

Heroes and VillainsSince there is nothing better to do and the release of Heroes and Villains’ debut full-length, Turn Your Swords, is coming up, I, the indubitable Goon, decided to track down the ill-shaven band’s leader, Adam Raitano, and ask him some questions his publicist deemed inappropriate. After locking said publicist in my hall closet, I went to the internet and found an email address for the “musician.” Apparently Raitano is “preparing” (surfing the internet) for “a performance on Live Wire! at the the Aladdin Theatre tonight” (interracial pornography), but he took the time to answer my pressing questions anyway. While his answers were certainly pedestrian, i still enjoyed my e-conversation with Raitano. When the band’s album is released late next month, I might even listen to it.

What is your favorite track on this album? Why?
I would choose between “The Setup” or “DryLand.” The Setup has some players from March Fourth on it (they are playing with us at Live Wire! too, and it sounds hot!!!)and “DryLand” has our best arrangment on this album.

What is your least favorite track? Why?
The one that didn’t make the cut. It’s a touching little number about racetracks and alligators called, “And They Called Him Moe”. But seriously, I don’t know… “Some Time Away,” maybe. It’s the easiest song to play but somehow was the toughest to record.

Why the hell did you include it then?
It’s one part of the vast whole. Not to be confused with the “vast hole” which is what my answers may be referred to from now on if you like.

Do you have a track on the album that would be a good soundtrack for bombing Lebanon?
“One Way In, One Way Out”? It has a good beat and you can dance to it. Also, I in no way endorse dropping the bomb on anything ‘cept for a room full of my homies with my dope beats. I don’t have any dope beats. Or homies.

How about one for cross-border missile attacks on Israel?
“Punchline.” It’s a charming story about bones, light and the Nation of Islam. Also, I in now way endorse cross-border missle atta- you get the idea.

How about love songs? Do you have any of those on here?
I think they are all love songs in a way. Tainted love. Which is not the answer to your next question.

If you could steal one song from any other artist across time and space and include it on this album, what song would it be?
The one that made the most money ever. Oh, wait. I would want it to be the third song off the first album from the band that the wind player from the Cantina Band started before moving to Tatooine. Man, they were smokin’.

The Big Bopper just told me you can take “Chantilly Lace” if you like. Would you like to?
You can tell the Big Bopper that letting me use one of his songs is no substitute for the 100 bucks he owes me. And that’s 1950 dollars. Cold, hard cash, “Ooo, baby, that’s what I like.” You tell him I said that.

Heroes and Villains will be performing as a part of Live Wire tonight at the Aladdin Theatre. 7 pm. $12. All ages.
