Mirah, The Light (Hooliganship remix), from Joyride: Remixes
8-Bit Mirah? I never saw it coming. Well, I never saw a 2xLP remix album coming either. Yet, here it is: the K Punk songstress/Microphones’ torchbearer has given up her catalogue to a strange cadre of mostly NW artists ranging from Phil Elverum (Mt. Eerie…duh) to to this track by Hooliganship, thoughfully entered into the aurally pixelated electronic matrix of, say, Duck Hunt if the ducks were dancing instead of getting shot by your plastic infrared gun (murderer). Anyhow, maybe you know this anti-tech style from E*Rock: rough edges, Casio beats, and some “homemade” synths. It’s a amazingly accurate translation of the original: it’s nearly beat for beat, note for note. They wisely cut out half of the song , where it turns to a slow, guitar+throat interlude. They could have made a holy mess of things fucking with that.
Mirah isn’t Local, but Hooliganship is. The release party’s in Portland on the 26th at a TBA Portland venue.

says:the album cover is a picture the underside of that big scary bridge, isn’t it? i love that spot, where mississippi goes down the little hill and you’re under that crazy bridge.

(post author) says:Fun fact: I once spent a night running from the PPD for trying to take that same picture. I love that spot. It feels like negative space…very pretty negative space. I suspect that eastside bridge split was never intended to look that awesome either.
BTW: i just added the original of this song to the post, so maybe y’all could weigh in with some Venn diagrams and such.
