LEAK: Copy, “Assassinator” from Hair Guitar (Audio Dregs)
Oh, if only you could win “Best New Band” twice… Yep, first listens of Copy’s upcoming release, Hair Guitar, indeed confirm that Mobius Beard was hardly a fluke, and Marius Libman’s one hell of a producer. This track’s coming out of a laptop computer speaker the size of my thumb right now and it’s still making me want to dance. Later in the spring, “Assassinator” will come out in 12″ form (hence the longishness) on Holocene Music, so we’ll really see how properly it does Portland’s dance floors. It’s classic Copy style: stretched out bass progressions, layered micromelodies, squiggely pixelated synth tones, straight 4/4s, handclaps (via drum machine), a little melancholy, and a little more party.
Hair Guitar comes out March 6th on Audio Dregs. Copy plays a release show with Panther on March 2nd.
