Doubledutch Get Lost in the Gungle Dungn; Plan Release Show

For anyone mourning the reported “extended hiatus” of local favorites Eskimo and Sons, this news might help ease the pain. Doubledutch—the psychedelic soul project of Eskimo and Sons’ Dhani Rosa and Typhoon’s Jordan Bagnall (who also moonlights as a violin player with the Sons)—just released its debut album Gungle Dungn on Portland-based label Bang Back Records. Named after Rosa’s recording studio, the album (recorded “between January and February of the 2,007th year of our Lord?” Hmm, maybe they mean 2008) reportedly “ranges from haunting and etheric magic spells to tight, reverb-laced power pop.” The few tracks we’ve heard are pretty damn gorgeous, with Bagnall’s sugary vocals floating on top of airy electronics and, on sparse standout “Peeple,” a bed of piano, background noise, glockenspiel and well-timed finger snaps.
And to celebrate the grand occasion, the duo has just announced a CD release show set for August 21st at Holocene with support from White Fang (!), Pink Widower and Breakfast Mountain. No word yet on whether it will be an all-ages affair, but considering the fact that many of the performers are still not legal drinking age—and that the venue has hosted a few kid friendly shows this summer—we’re thinking it just might be. We’re also thinking that the live lineup should be rounded out by a few other Boy Gorilla troupes because, you know, double-dutch requires more than two people.
