Live Review: The Dirty Dozen Brass Band at Jimmy Mak’s, Friday, Oct. 17

Pearl District Jazz supper club Jimmy Mak’s was an excellent venue (although they could have probably used far fewer tables) for a party-down evening with New Orleans superstars the Dirty Dozen Brass Band. They packed in a very enthusiastic, almost completely standing room only crowd. People got down with the band, a few folks got up on the stage, and people just let it loose as the band served up its very own pioneering blend of funk, bebop and New Orleans jazz.

After multiple encores and an evening of very large sound, band co-founder Roger Lewis finished the show with a smokin’ sax solo and, in a most hospitable way, bid the crowd a very good night.
