News Roundup! PDX Pop Now!, Free Music From Chad Crouch, Super XX Man Videos

1573062900-1-300x300So much news to report today, so little time. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: we really need a news scroller of some sort. First person to make this a reality wins a copy of our Christmas compilation and a night on the town with me. Away we go!

- PDX Pop Now!—the volunteer-driven, all ages, totally kickass music festival that takes place in our lovely little town every summer—is now accepting submissions from Portland area bands for the 2009 comp. Here’s the rest of the info. Hopefully they’ll like the gem we sent in, “The Loneliness of a Portland Music Writer.” Boy, can Casey hit those high notes:

For those interested in submitting music for consideration for inclusion on the compilation, the process is now easier than ever. Once on the submissions page of the PDX Pop Now! website, artists can make a submission online through a simple mp3 upload, a process no more difficult than attaching a file to an email. The submission form can now also be filled out online, though it will need to be printed, finished off with an old-fashioned hand-scrawled signature and mailed to PDX Pop Now! to complete the submission. Artists can still opt to mail in CDs of their music submissions if they prefer. February 29 is the deadline for song uploads, while all release forms are due by March 15. The PDX Pop Now! mailing address, submission guidelines and all other pertinent info can be found on the submissions page.

- Hush Records has quite the goody for the new year: 20 short instrumental tracks available for free to accompany photographs for your enjoyment. It’s all part of the Sound of Picture project, and more info is available on the Creative Commons post. And of course they’re all available for free. Take that, Apple! Hush doesn’t charge to make all it’s files DRM-free.

- The Hush site also has two videos up from the Super XX Man CD release show. How could you resist? I mean, they’re posted right below this sentence! The first video is “Medication” and the second is “There’ll Be Diamonds,” which is also the name of the album. Super XX Man plays tonight at the Press Club with John Vecchiarelli and Mike Johnson:
