The Shaky Hands Get A New Drummer, Tour With The Meat Puppets

I love me some Shaky Hands. I’m kind of obsessed with the Joggers. So when I found out a month ago through the rumor mill that Jake Morris—drummer for the Joggers and frequent touring member of Grails—was set to join the Shaky Hands, my inner geek couldn’t help but get excited. Think of all the awesome classic rock covers they can pull off! And now it’s official: Morris is joining the Hands’ just in time for a West Coast tour opening for legendary country-punks and near acid casualties the Meat Puppets. Sadly, word from Mayhaw Hoons is that Nathan Delffs—brother of singer Nick and a man who sure knows how to play the bongo drums—won’t be joining this tour, derailing my fantasy five piece. Still, this is quite an exciting gig for the Hands, and I’m interested to see where their sound goes know that Morris is behind the kit. More cowbell, perhaps? The tour won’t be stopping in Portland, but if someone wants to take a road trip down to Eugene, let me know. Le dates:

And in VERY exciting news, it looks like the Joggers will actually release something in 2009. On Morris’ blog he says that the rumored split 7-inch with Pan Tourismos is coming out very soon. Here’s a picture of the thing just for good measure. We’ll update you with more details when we get ‘em, but I can tell you that “Talking At Keith” is a certified jam. What a great way to start the year!
