Celilo Visits the Woodshop on New Penny Jam
It might not be the most lively of locations, but Ken Tomita’s woodworking shop—located, conveniently, directly across the straight from the Penny Jam’s headquarters—really is the perfect fit for the lovelorn, slightly psychedelic Americana that Celilo pedals. The local sextet play the gorgeous “Little Coquette” from its new record Bending Mirrors (out next week on Homesweet Music), trying not to knock anything out of order as pedal-steel reverberates in the cavernous space. Celilo’s music sounds best on a large scale, and the wherehouse suits every nuance of the track. Singer Sloan Martin has the same sort of twangy inflection that Isaac Brock uses on the mellower Modest Mouse tracks, and in this video it’s just as lucid as on record. Good stuff, guys!

According to the Penny Jam’s Twitter account, some enticing episodes are around the corner, including spots with Explode Into Colors and Grey Anne. Please tell me they shot Anne in a wedding dress shop.
