Wanna Go See Star%$*&er and Lifesavas On Us? Contest!

The fine folks at the Music in the Schools Project have kindly allowed us to give away two tickets to Thursday Night’s excellent Portland Public Schools fundraiser at Cleveland High, which features local dance-pop sensations Star*!@$?er (there might be kids reading! Kids with sensitive eyes!!) and Portland Rap superstars Lifesavas, as well as two local high school bands worthy of your time: Inspired indie rockers Starparty (no relation to the other Stars on the bill—see tomorrow’s music feature) and wild ska-riffage collective Don’t Hurt Miles.
But here’s the deal. Some parents are a little concerned. I mean, come on, is Star%#&*er really an appropriate band name? Letter to the Editor-type people don’t think so. So here’s your challenge: Rename Star&$%%er something that moms can say proudly and the Oregonian doesn’t mind printing (because it’s pretty confusing just calling them “Star—-” and not explaining the dashes). The best kid-friendly name for Star#$$%er emailed to us (cjarman at wweek dot com) by Wednesday at 11:59 pm gets to tix to the show, and we’ll start using the new name as a pseudonym for Star&#$%er when it makes sense.

But honestly, this show is for the children. It’s a good cause (getting music programs back into the Portland public school system) and these are great bands. And you get to go back to high school, which, come on, you’ve always wanted to do.

(post author) says:While we do appreciate all the late entries, the winner of the contest was Amit Gordon with “Starmuppet.” It’s not that “Starmuppet” was the best entry, just that it was the only one that came in before deadline and qualified (some were funny but borrowed, some were from WW people). Thanks for playing, and I hope Starmuppet totally killed it!
