Shelley Short Announces New Album With Stop Motion Video
Oh, Shelley Short. I’ve had a bit of a crush on Short and her wonderful country-folk songs ever since I saw her at the tiny Towne Lounge (RIP) last summer, and that crush just got bigger after watching her video for “Time Machine/Submarine” from the forthcoming full-length A Cave, A Canoo. Shelly, how come I had no idea you had a new record coming out?
“Time Machine/Submarine” is a lovely song, filled with her almost childlike croon and warm washes of electric guitar from (I’m assuming) collaborator Alexis Gideon. And the video is even better, a simple stop motion journey featuring paper cut outs and drawings, a keyboard that plays itself, and a few more surprises. If everything on the record sounds like this, I might have a hard time listening to anything else this fall. A Cave, A Canoo is out October 13 on Hush Records. Hush speculates that Gideon also worked on the video, so if that’s true, hats off for a job very well done.
