Okay, well if you’re going to be that remorseful about it, in re-reading my first missive I was a bit harsh, and I apologize for that. “Burning Stars” was the “one song” to which I was referring, and I can see your point as far as that goes. I would just hope that people give this band a chance on their own merits, because they’ve got a damned fantastic debut coming out.

No, I’m not in any way affiliated with the band, label, etc.

Anyway, again, apologies.

Hey Jim-Bob,

I see your point, but I definitely didn’t intend for it to come off as destructive. It’s hard to deny that Mimicking Bird’s recorded material—especially the song I was listening to at the time, “Burning Stars”—bears a strong resemblance to The Moon and Antartica-era Modest Mouse. But you have a great point: Mimicking Birds are far from a “rip-off afterthought,” and my lazy description doesn’t do them much justice.

Nice un-necessary dismissal: Mimicking Birds are summed up as “very Modest Mouse-y” based on what? One song? Fine, fine, you followed it up with a “though still great,” but the point is that when you write something like that here, most take it as absolute fact.

In the context, you’re presenting them as a rip-off afterthought, when anyone who’s seen Nate Lacy’s band live knows that there’s something special going on there. Do you have to start tearing down already? Why not take out those destructive energies on someone whose current work merits it….like Modest Mouse.
