Ah Holly Fam’ly Reveal Album Cover, Preview New Album Reservoir

-1You see this picture in the left hand corner? That’s the cover of Ah Holly Fam’ly’s debut full-length, Reservoir, which is due out on October 13 courtesy of local good guys Lucky Madison. I’ve had the album for about a week now, and I hate to get too preachy so far in advance of the release date, but what the hell: Reservoir is an incredible record, rich and detailed and immensely listenable. It’s the type of kakeidoscopic-folk record that appeals to people who normally shy away from anything that relies so heavily on layered instrumentation and a child-like wonder to everyday life. Opening with multi-tracked harmonies and gentle woodwinds, “Loneliest City” is the poppiest thing here, just an earnest and gorgeous introduction to the Fam’ly’s whimsical take on Appalachian folk. Becky Dawson and Jeremy Faulkner sing most of the song in unison, but their voices never fight for space until the last verse, as the Faulker sings “I’m talking to all you…” before Dawson jumps in with “people of Antartica” to finish his thought. Lucky Madison were gracious enough to let us preview “Loneliest City,” and check back for an official MP3 in the near future.
