Tired of Festivals Yet? No? Then Try First Fest!
There’s a lot of music festivals to choose from this summer. PDX Pop Now! just wrapped up last week, Pickathon is this weekend, and both MFNW and Bumbershoot loom in the near future. Still, if you don’t want to shell out the cash to hang out with a bunch of folk-pickers at Pendarvis Farm, local grassroots promotion collective Potlatch Presents has another option: First Fest.
The aptly-named festival takes place this weekend at Berbati’s Pan, with three consecutive nights of music curated by the Potlatch gang (it started last night). It’s a nice collection of music, ranging from Purple Rhinestone Eagle’s epic all-girl riffage to the electronic underpinnings of Yeah Great Fine to Swim Swam Swum’s distillation of ’90s Midwest emo into bouncy three minute chunks. Though most of the lineup is filled with local bands, a few are making the trip to PDX, including Seattle’s Black Whales and CA’s Petracovich.
Tickets are also ridiculously cheap—just $5 per day or $10 for a wristband that gets you into all three nights. Plus, First Fest is probably your only option that won’t complete tire you out. Here’s the full lineup:
