Loch Lomond Gets Fancy at the Ace Hotel
Behind all its ornate instrumentation and chamber arrangements, Loch Lomond is a pop band. You could always hear it in spots—the gentle chug of “Field Report,” the plucked strings and gallop of “Blue Lead Fences”—but never before has the six piece band been in full pop mode. Until now.
In the 26th (!) edition of the Penny Jam, Loch Lomond play its new and super poppy song “The Ghost of an Earthworm” in the warm, book-bound confines of the Ace Hotel. Beginning at the top of the steps, the camera slowly descends the stairs to get to the band, but it’s all in quick cuts—you never get to look at any one member for very long, and the editing works with the song’s chiming melody. Man, Loch Lomond is on a serious R.E.M. kick. And I have no problem with that.
Loch Lomond’s Night Bats EP—which includes “The Ghost of an Earthworm” and four more new tracks—is out on November 10. Get yer preorders now. Also, make sure to check out the new Penny Jam website, which looks great. Maybe they can help make LocalCut prettier.
