East Portland Alert! Music Festival on 82nd Ave. Tonight and Tomorrow!

26ab2ec7dfa5cce81b7f5351ce578144--1--PosterCompRevised2jpg--largeI’ll cut right to the chase. Tonight and tomorrow there’s a for-charity music fest (the East Country Music Festival) out on 82nd street, and while we don’t know many of the bands we think it’s incredibly cool to see a fest pop up out in that part of town and we hope they’re able to raise some money for SnoCap, which does some neat things in the community (and has no relation to that awful music service of the same name that’s all over MySpace).

The fest, held at the Red Room (2530 NE 82nd), has a conceit: The artists playing are all from the area. Here’s the press release:

On a given night, the Red Room crowd is a mixture of people who hopped on the 84 or the MAX for a few minutes to see a band they know, and neighborhood folks who have come in to see if it’s indie rock, punk, metal or something else rocking the Avenue of Roses this weekend.

But rather than focus solely on bringing in up and coming local bands who are already on the radar of the downtown scene, like Asian dance rockers, the Slants, who performed at the Red Room earlier this year when the venue re-launched, The Red Room figured it was time to bring the neighborhood musicians together to celebrate where they live.

“There are talented musicians who live in this area and come in here all the time who feel a little left out Portland music community,” says Andre, an owner of the bar. “So we put out a call for any bands of any style who live east of 82nd to be considered for an East County music festival to be held at the Red Room on the weekend of October 23 and 24. We want to show Portland what the outer east side has to offer!”

Us snobby inner-Portlanders love to make SE 82nd Ave. jokes, but we truly think this is a cool idea, so here’s the schedule for tonight and tomorrow. If you’re out East, this is probably the place to be. Like we said, we’ve not heard a lot of these bands so the links are provided as well.
