Mimicking Birds Get a Date for Glacial Pace Debut
Mimicking Birds, one of two Portland-based bands on Isaac Brock’s Glacial Pace imprint, has finally landed a release date for its self-titled debut disc. It’ll drrrrop (sorry, I’ve been listening to a lot of the Pharcyde this week) on Feb. 9. There’s more about the label and the band in the story I wrote back in September. Still forthcoming on Glacial Pace is the next album from Morning Teleportation—no release date set yet—and a bunch of Modest Mouse reissue stuff (including some sweet, sweet vinyl that has been out-of-print for far too long). Below is the press release on Mimicking Birds. One can preview some album tracks at the Glacial Pace website.
New York, NY – Mimicking Birds has announced the release of their debut self-titled album on February 9th via Glacial Pace Recordings.
The Portland, OR trio recorded their debut album throughout 2009 in the home studio of Glacial Pace owner and Modest Mouse frontman, Isaac Brock. Mimicking Birds was produced by Isaac Brock and Clay Jones and mixed by Clay Jones. Joining lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Nate Lacy in Mimicking Birds is drummer Aaron Hanson and guitarist Tim Skellenger.
What started out as a solo project under the moniker Neight (a portmanteau of ‘Nate’ and ‘eight’) has evolved into the trio now known as Mimicking Birds. Originally from Portland, OR, flock lead man Nate Lacy initially learned to play guitar during his senior year in high school. Shortly after graduating, he moved south to Eugene, OR for two
years and began writing music. Once he became acquainted with a Yamaha 16-track digital recorder, Nate began recording his songs while playing all of the instruments himself.Recently, Nate was joined by his childhood friends, drummer Aaron Hanson, whose talent is rooted in constructing spacious, purposeful beats while Tim Skellenger, being the least structured musician in the band brings a lighthearted and buoyant sound on guitar. With a quiet but consistently growing fan base, Mimicking Birds began performing for audiences in the Pacific Northwest in 2008 and this year toured with Modest Mouse throughout the US. In October, Mimicking Birds made their Austin City Limits Festival debut performance and recently completed a
tour with Blind Pilot.“We enjoy making music for scenery. The sound of language and big picture issues are inspirations for our music.” Mimicking Birds

says:You can actually pick up 8 or 9 of the 11 songs as mp3s free at their Virb page (http://virb.com/mimicking birds), in addition to a bunch of other tracks. Sorta disappointed at two being left off— Rivers, Veins and Roots and The Fear Parade were probably my two favorites in there
ah well.

The virb page of Nate Lacy is his home recordings, while these songs are re-recorded with Isaac Brock so they are different. If you go to the glacial pace sight, their player has a new version of “The Loop” if you want to hear he differences. The new version of “The Loop” is pretty similar to the home recording but different none the less. Anyway my point is go ahead and download the songs but still buy the album when it comes out! It will be amazing!
