Live Review: Them Crooked Vultures, Sunday, Nov. 22 @ Roseland

One benefit of not selling your soul to Satan: Eventually, you’ll end up playing keytar while your 6-foot-something frontman shimmies across the stage like Neil Diamond on stilts.
If you don’t know, according to rock lore, in the late 1960s three-fourths of Led Zeppelin (allegedly) struck a deal with the devil in exchange for global mega-stardom. [...]
Live Review: The Mountain Goats, Wednesday, Nov. 11 @ the Wonder Ballroom

Review by WW’s food and theater critic, Ben Waterhouse.
John Darnielle was in a good mood last night. Maybe it was the vegetarian platter he ate for dinner at Queen of Sheba (I was star-struck on the way to the bathroom when I ran across him eating, alone, at the MLK Blvd. Ethiopian joint), but [...]

Damn, localcut has gone international! First our ex-intern Jenny reported on the Swn Festival in Cardiff, Wales, and now our intrepid globe-trotting reporter Mark Stock reports live from a Glass Candy show in Rome. It’s so real!

Live Review: Regina Spektor, Sunday, Nov. 1 @ Roseland Theater

Let’s cut right to the chase: Regina Spektor could sing aloud from the nutritional information on the box of your favorite breakfast cereal and I’d be enraptured. Her golden slide-whistle voice would have me giddy over the high amount of sugar grams per serving, crying gentle tears into my Honey Sugar O’s as she croons [...]
Live Review: MC Chris, Friday, October 23 @ Berbati’s Pan

Dear MC Chris,
You seemed totally startled at the fanatical devotion the crowd at Berbati’s Pan poured at you on Friday. Why was that? You are, after all, you—and this is, after all, Portland.
Seriously, have you been here before? Have you gone for a drink and some Tetris at our barcade? The one next door [...]
Live Review: Islands, Wednesday, October 21 @ Hawthorne Theatre

On Wednesday night at the Hawthorne Theater, Islands frontman Nick Thorburn took to the stage wearing a rhinestone covered cape and plastic not-quite-sunglasses. Given the shimmering, flowing music on Islands’ latest record Vapours, the garb seemed appropriate. After a few songs, though, the cape and shades were gone. This was a sensible fashion decision too. [...]
Mark Stock’s Austin City Limits

We sent Mark Stock to Austin City Limits because—well, because he wanted to go to Austin City Limits, and because we wanted to hear about it. It’s going up a bit late due to unforeseen circumstances at the home office. -Ed.

Last weekend, for the third year in a row, LocalCut contributor Arya Imig hosted a three-day festival in celebration of his 27th birthday with, you guessed it, 27 bands. Featuring performances from Copy, May Ling, Blue Skies For Black Hearts, Sallie Ford and more spread across three house venues (The Blood Bank, Green House, and [...]
Live Review: Red Bull Soundclash, October 1 @ Crystal Ballroom

When you go to a “battle of the bands,” you usually have a pretty good idea what you’re in for. A band will play a set. Then another band will play a set. Then another, and so on. And at the end of it all, somebody gets declared a winner. [...]
Live Review: Pearl Jam at Clark County Amphitheater

“Hello Oregonians. Hello Washingtonians. Hello Port—where the fuck are we?”
Eddie Vedder wasn’t drunk. He’s just done this so many damn times he honestly could be anywhere and talking to anybody. In stadiums and clubs, on football fields and in recording booths. Pearl Jam has been doing this whole rock band thing for 19 years and [...]
