Gerding Theater at the Armory

WW received an anonymous tip this afternoon that Portland Center Stage’s managing director, Edith H. Love, is no longer with the company as of yesterday. Actually, the tipster said she was fired for arguing with the board, but let’s not get carried away.

PCS Board Chair Donna Huntsman confirmed that Love has “elected to not renew her contract,” but told WW that she “made a lot of great contributions to the company in her time [with PCS]” and that the board has “been very happy with [the] management team.” Huntsman declined to comment on Love’s reasons for leaving.

The board has already formed a team to search for a new managing director.

Love, who joined PCS in 2003 from the Dallas Theater Center, previously managed the Alliance Theatre Company in Atlanta and sat on the board of Theater Communications Group, has a solid reputation for turning ailing companies around. With the Gerding Theater built and the company enjoying one of the best years in its history, is Portland Center Stage no longer in need of her help?
