Sure the bagels taste great when you don't know they've been dropped on the floor and placed right back in their box to be distributed out in the front at a later time. I worked there for only 2 weeks about 20hrs/wk before i realized what a major a hole the owner was and quit. During this period of employment i witnessed him picking up a couple of bagles off the floor 5 times so that he wouldn't lose out on his money for the day (considering he only has his bakers make a certain amt a day). The reason the service is rated so poorly here is b/c the employees get treated like s**t by this guy who thinks he's god almighty himself just because he has the power to hire & fire. I always wondered why this place had such a high turnover before... now i know. If you read my review and like to be respected at your place of employment, please don't ever go here so that this douchebag can learn a lesson and realize his actions will come around and bite him in the tush.

Why does the Kettleman Web site tout the making of "Montreal" style bagels and the local store says they are "New York" style. Is the portland one a franchise of the canadian company or not?

Hi Liz,

Just a note to clarify.

At Kettleman, we never microwave a bagel. They are always lightly toasted or not. On sandwichs, we do heat the meat and melt the cheese type items separately in a microwave oven, then add them to the bagel.

A microwaved bagel just doesn't sound right!!

Oh...the sanctity of the bagel.

Thank you for your article on Jeffrey and our operation. He is the hardest working man I have ever met!

We are humbled by the terrific response to our product.

Sincerely,
Rod Benbrook
