Former House Rep. Derrick Kitts is mulling a run in Oregon’s reliably Republican 26th House District, according to the NW Republican.
But don’t call it a comeback—Kitts doesn’t even live there.
Kitts still lives in Hillsboro, where he was elected to represent the 30th House District in 2003, serving two terms. During his short time in Salem, the former varsity wrestler provided plenty of fodder for WW—running afoul of the law in 2003, and pushing through a bill to help out a go-kart buddy in 2005.
After passing on another term in 2006 for a failed bid to unseat U.S. Rep. David Wu, with his own seat claimed by Democrat David Edwards, Kitts now seems ready to head for greener pastures in the 26th District.
The 26th sprawls south and west of Portland, from Sherwood to Forest Grove, and is considered friendly Republican territory, and with the retirement announcement by Rep. Jerry Krummel, suddenly available.
If and when Kitts makes his move, obstacles still remain. Republican Steve Wingard has already announced his candidacy to replace Krummel.
Wingard was terse about a possible district switch by Kitts.
“I think residents are looking for someone who really knows the district,” he said.
