Adams and Savage

City Commissioner Sam Adams added Dan Savage to his list of endorsements for mayor at Rebooting Democracy’s PolitiPalooza party tonight.

Dan Savage–well-known for his syndicated column Savage Love–emceeded Rebooting Democracy’s political fashion show, featuring political candidates walking down the runway in clothing from Sameunderneath.

Adams was supposed to participate in the Fashion Show, but arrived late, citing being tied up at the Q Center participating in a panel discussion about the history of gays in Portland. (He made up for it later in the evening by announcing the winners of a raffle).

Passing around a clipboard signing people up for his campaign and collecting endorsements, Adams turned to Savage.

“Sure,” Savage said, taking the pen.

“Sam?” Savage said, when asked why he was endorsing Adams. “He’s a pole smoker like me. I’m like those old women voting for Hillary.”

Savage said that he follows politics in Portland, citing a political junkie habit, and is aware of Adams’ politics.

“With where we are right now with gay rights in Oregon,” Savage said. “It would be really important for the biggest city in the state to flip off the bigots out in the woods by electing a gay mayor.”

“Having the support of a national gay leader is great,” Adams said.

pardon my bias..but who the fuck cares who mr. "national gay leader" savage endorses IN OUR CITY.
He doesn’t live HERE, he doesn’t vote HERE, and he SURE as hell ain’t going to be the man, gay or otherwise, that I turn to when I need an opinion about my CITY.

  2. meatpuppet says:

When is Adams going to stand next to Joe 6pack and be proud of his support – never.
    Pandering POS.

  3. Jenny says:

Join supporters of Sho Dozono at a rally at Grant High School on Saturday, January 19th, 10:30-2.

  4. Brad says:

Sho Dozono is an ardent supporter of gay rights, as all human rights.

He has been married for 40 years to his wonderful wife, Loen. They have raised five children in Portland.

My point is, you don’t have to be gay to support gay rights.

  5. Dave A. says:

Is this supposed to be what passes for "News"? Who really cares what some sex advice columnist who writes in alt. weekly papers says?

  6. Ben Waterhouse says:

Presumably, the readers of alt weeklies.

  7. Josh Mahar says:

I would point out that he also is Editor of The Stranger in Seattle, a fairly well read publication that usually voices his political opinions AND through The Stranger he also has a lot of sway in the Portland Mercury.

My point is that while you personally might not care what Savage says, he does actually carry a mighty long pole when it comes to public outreach.

he does actually carry a mighty long pole when it comes to public outreach.

Some of us could give a shit where he "outreaches" with his long pole.
