Look which Oregon Democrat is endorsing Illinois Sen. Barack Obama’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Today’s announcement by U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-Ore.) means this Oregon scorecard needs some revision — and who knows, maybe a nice cabinet job in an Obama administration for Blumenauer (Can anyybody say Secretary of Transportation Earl Blumenauer? After all, that job has been done before by an Oregonian).

Then again, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton is said to have a long memory, if the congressman has bet on the wrong Democrat.

  1. Hank Stern says:

We learn from Andy Giegerich’s story in the Portland Business Journal that there’s another local notable endorsing Obama (Read to the end)…

By the end of the Portland Trail Blazers’ 2007-2008 season, forward James Jones will have earned more than $8.9 million during his five-year NBA career.

And, thanks to his solid season, the 27-year-old will likely command a new contract, from the Blazers or another team, that could deliver another $5 million annually over the next three or four years.

Yet Jones views his high-level CEO-like salary more as a conduit to his next life than a ticket to retirement. When he retires, Jones will learn the ropes as a financial adviser. It’s an avenue for which Jones has prepared since his University of Miami days. He graduated with his finance degree in three years and considers his education ongoing.

“There’s a lot out there to learn about, from stocks to bonds to REITs to currency exchange,”said Jones, unwinding after the team’s dramatic Jan. 27 94-93 comeback victory over Atlanta. “The finance world is so big that it’s impossible to conquer it all.”

Which partly explains why Jones sees himself as generalist. It’s difficult to focus on a training-intensive career, such as professional basketball, while keeping an eye on individual equities or sectors. Jones currently manages only a small part of his portfolio, employing a counselor to oversee the rest. Most of his ventures flow into the conservative vehicles favored by savvy investors who, as Jones concedes, are wealthy like him.

Jones said a good friend in Phoenix, where he spent two seasons with the Suns, told him to invest his excess cash, save a little and keep his
expenses down. Doing so, the friend said, will give Jones a healthy investment fund with which he can test his financial mettle when his
    playing days end.

“If I can eventually invest $10 million and make 5 percent off that, well, I can live off that a year,” he said. “My philosophy’s always been that when you’re working with so much capital, you just have to be safe.”

    Any favored equities?
“I detest equities," Jones said quickly. "I’m the type of investor who needs to be actively involved with it, and I can’t devote enough time to stay immersed in it. For me it’s bonds, CDs and anything else I can get a safe return on.”

In considering a future finance career, Jones is hardly exploring uncharted NBA territory, even for former Blazers. Chris Dudley, the center from Yale who filled the middle for the team during the 1990s, is a certified financial adviser who plies his trade for Pearl District mainstay M Financial Group.

Michael Holton, who played with the team in the 1980s and serves as a commentator for the team’s pre- and post-game cable broadcasts, works for State Farm insurance.

By contrast, Jones holds a bit more of a global outlook. For instance, the Barack Obama supporter is considering whether a political career might allow him to represent and contribute to such communities as Miami, where he grew up.

The idea of entering politics hit home when several Blazers discussed the plight of New Orleans, where the team ended its recent seven-game road trip last week.

“Politics is money, and it would be great to have knowledge of both issue and how they affect you and the community,” he said. “Ninety-nine percent of political decisions are financially based, and it would be great to have the opportunity to affect peoples’ lives and help them become financially free.”

  2. Janet Reno says:

Obama’s efforts to connect to the Republican Party, specifically Bush, and Dick Chaney, of the Halliburton Company, dates back to the Presidents Grandfather, Prescott Bush, and indeed Chaney was once an executive officer of Halliburton.

The American military pounds Iraq with Artillary, bombs, and the like, destroying large sections of cities, and infra-structures, then Halliburton comes in to rebuild. Halliburton and Halliburton associated companies have raked in ten’s of billions.

Obama is just like the BIG HALIBURTAN. Haliburton has contracted to build detention centers in the U.S. similiar to the one in Quantanammo Bay, Cuba. Halliburton does nothing to earn the Two Dollars for each meal an American Serviceman in Iraq eats.

Halliburton was scheduled to take control of the Dubai Ports in The United Arab Emiirate. The deal was canceled when Bush was unable to affect the transfer of the American Ports.

Now we see what some might suspect as similiar financial escapading from the Democrats.

Two years ago, Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity gave a $50 million contract to a start-up security company – Companion- owned by now-indicted businessman (TONY REZKO) Tony Rezko and a onetime Chicago cop, Daniel T. Frawley, to train Iraqi power-plant guards in the United States. An Iraqi leadership change left the deal in limbo. Now the company, Companion Security, is working to revive its contract.
Involved along with Antoin “Tony” Rezco, long time friend and neighbor of Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama, and former cop Daniel T. Frawley, is Aiham Alsammarae. Alsammarae was accused of financial corruption by Iraqi authorities and jailed in Iraq last year before escaping and returning here.

    LIKE FATHER LIKE SON.

Recently, Obama’s campaign staff have been vetted by the IRS to disclose his connection to the criminal money generating underworld. Besides, his connections to the REZCO MAFIA types, his up-coming tax fraud charges — Obama needs to disclose why he is a MUSLIM "PATWANG-FWEEE" and disclose Obama’s MUSLIM Farrakhan mob connection to Chicago’s Trinity United Church of Christ. Its minister, and Obama’s spiritual adviser, is the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. In 1982, the church launched Trumpet Newsmagazine; Wright’s daughters serve as publisher and executive editor. Every year, the magazine makes awards in various categories. Last year, it gave the Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Trumpeter Award to a man it said "truly epitomized greatness." That man is Louis Farrakhan. Farrakhan and Chicago’s Trinity United Church are trumpeting Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama as the second coming of the messiah. Obama should stop suppoting our intervention in IRAQ. It’s time to introduce this false, fake Xerox – X box Obama and invite the self-indicting thief plagiarizing pipsqueke "GLORK" Xerox – X box to meet the Buffalo "GAZOWNT-GAZIKKA" Police Department Buffalo Creek. He is MAD!!! –

    OBAM YOU’RE NO JFK.

"GLORK" Obama looks like Alfred E. Newman: "Tales Calculated To Drive You." He is a MUSLIM "Glork" He’s MAD!!! Alfred E. Neuman is the fictional mascot of Mad. The face had drifted through American pictography for decades before being claimed by Mad editor Harvey Kurtzman after he spotted it on the bulletin board in the office of Ballantine Books editor Bernard Shir-Cliff, later a contributor to various magazines created by Kurtzman.

    Michelle Obama should be ashamed.

"GLORK" Michelle Obama should be ashamed of her separatist-racist connection to Farrakhan and Chicago’s Trinity United Church trumpeting Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama as the second coming of the messiah. If Michelle Obama new what her husband — the Hope-A-Dope, Fonster Monster — Barack Obama AKA Barack Hussein Obama did in Harlem, she would wash her wide-open, Hus-suey loving MUSILM mouth out, with twenty-four (24) mule-team double-cross X-boX-BorraX.
