Portland is a freaky place. We’ve got an undead film festival, a zombie walk and now…a bona fide vampire movie.
Twilight, from director Catherine Hardwicke (Nativity Story, Thirteen, Lords of Dogtown), stars a slew of young newbies from the world of television and movies.
Now shooting in Portland’s burbs, Twilight is based on Stephanie Meyer’s #1 New York Times bestselling series of the same name. It tells the story of a high school student, Bella (Kristen Stewart, Panic Room), who falls in love with a conscientious vampire, Edward (Robert Pattinson, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix). The closer Bella and Edward become, the more he must struggle with his desire to drink her blood. But when Edward’s vampire nemeses (Edi Gathegi, Cam Gigandet) come to town, looking for Bella, all bets are off.

WHOA, SISTA! You are off by a long shot! As much as I appreciate Buffy and her own little crew, the Cullen family OWNS them. I mean, come on, take a look at Edward Cullen (god, i’m in love *swoon*) Just saying, you better think before you judge by a picture, because that book is the best I’ve ever read-and probably millions could say the same!
this story is in no way like Buffy the Vampire Slayer at all. Buffy was a tough slayer where as Bella is a klutzy high school student. Buffy focused on killing vampires and Bella just loves to be around them. I’ve seen every episode of "Buffy the Vampire SLayer" and "Angel" and I love it all. Twilight is awesome in a different way then "Buffy". They are both excellent.
How is Twilight similar to Buffy in any way? It’s completely unique and isn’t close to any other vampire/love story I’ve ever read or heard about!

This is nothing like Buffy; you clearly have not read any of the books in the Twilight series. There is no vampire slayer. It’s the story of a human girl who falls in love with a vampire and his struggle not to kill her. It’s unique, not a copy of a TV show. The vampires are also vegetarian; they don’t kill humans.
You’re right, I haven’t read the books – I was responding to the description of the story in this WWire posting. A high school student who falls in love with a conscientious vampire (Buffy & Angel?)and the vampire nemesis (Spike?). That sounds like Buffy to me. Geez, some pretty interested fans, though! Good for you all.
You clearly haven’t watched Buffy, because it’s about a human girl(Buffy)falls in love with a vampire(Angel) and his struggle not to eat her. Except it’s better because of the whole curse and how if they sleep together he will turn evil. Way better story, plus way more action. Twilight is just Buffy remade for your generation.It’s not unique.
I loved all three books and it is a beautiful love story of Edward and Bella. Unique and very different from Buffy. A wonderful read for teenagers.
I love these books like no other & I hate reading! This movie is going to be amazing! And, I loved Buffy…but this is nothing like Buffy! It is way better!!!

I love the Twilight series and have read it several times…definatly not a Buffy remake, in fact in an interview with the author she said she’d never even seen Buffy before! Can’t wait for the movie YEAH!

I am the biggest Buffy fan – I even made my own website about it and could’ve told you which quote came from which episode and who said it, but I am now also a HUGE Twilight fan and although there are a few small similarities, they are completely different. Twilight it more of a romance with less fighting and action, the relationship between the characters is unique and it’s just… so different and special.
Andrea must have either not seen Buffy, or not read the books.
I can’t wait for the movie, I’m so pleased with who they’ve selected for the cast. It should be amazing. And I agree with everyone else, this is NOT Buffy. I love Buffy, don’t get me wrong. But Twilight is completely different.
Everyones right andrea, i have seen evey episode in all 7 of buffys seasons, and this is nothing like it. Might want to try to read the books again.
twilight is going to be the very best movie EVER. it has romance, action, mystery. It’s the best thing to ever happen in the movie business. don’t ever compare it to anything else because this is unique and amazing.
Sadly, Im still quite disappointed with the casting of Twilight and still not convinced with certain characters. But hopefully they will prove me wrong. Can’t wait!!
I’m a huge (read HUGE) buffy fan and I have to say that Twilight is nothing like buffy. In Buffy you have this innocent looking girl who can totally defend herself and kick asses of people who are twice the size of her. In Twilight Bella is in need of protection from the "vegeterian" vampires and often gets into trouble. I love them both because they give me something different. Buffy = don’t underestimate the cute looking girl. Twilight = struggles of a 1st love
Twilight is a religion. Stephenie is a Goddess. I’m one of the die-hard followers. this movie will kick ass!! Amazing cast, a huge fanbase, and a fantastic director. What more do you need?

I agree with Ichi… and Buffy was a Vampire slayer… the show never made any sense… and the last i checked Bella wasn’t a vampire slayer. Nor was she in love with some one named Angel… god people can be so stupid. And as for Andrea Manning, if you haven’t read the books you shouldn’t judge something you haven’t read… even if all your judging it on is the artical… until you have read the books don’t put your two cents in… Read the book and you will see, Manning, that this book has nothing to do Buffy, and Edwards nemises isn’t Laurent or James really… its Victoria…
And how can you compare "The Chronicles of Narnia" to "The Golden Compass"? One is about kids who loved Jesus, and the other one is about kids who kill Jesus! What’s wrong with you, Andrea Manning? You so crazy!

Also why does the article say Edward’s nemeses are back in town lookin for Bella. James, Laurent, and Victoria are curious because of the game so they stop by, and yu know what happens. Oh and I’m sure the movie will be awesome!!! The cast looks great so far.

Except for Carlisle and Rosalie in this picture… Carlisle looks too old. And Rosalie’s skin doesn’t match her hair, or her hair doesn’t match her skin.. something funky there. Plus she’s not all snarling and mean like I think she would be. AND EMMETT! WHERE ARE HIS CURLS?! I’m loving Alice and Esme, but Jasper’s hair.. I mean, what furry animal did they kill and put on his head?
The ugly thing on Jasper’s head is a wig.
He was finishing filming another movie when they took these photos and couldn’t dye his hair because of it. He dyed his hair a few days after these photos.

OMg I’m so excited. I’m pretty mad at the casting of Jasper and Carlisle. Jasper has the worst hair, they need to do something about that, he’s my second favorite character. Someone Help him!! Carlisle looks too old! he looks like he’s in he’s 30s not 20’s.
First and foremost I wanna say that I love BUFFY! It may be better to say that my world revolves around Buffy. Here’s the thing though. I picked up Twilight bc of my love of everything "vampire" from Buffy. And guess what….I love Twilight! They are not the same. Not even close. But both of them rock. What is so wrong with someone loving both? No one work is better than the other. I know that if I hadn’t loved Buffy I never would have picked up Twilight….and I’m thankful everyday for it.
My daughter has been cast as an extra for the cafeteria scene that films in Portland the last week of March. Trouble is, she’s waiting on a "final confirmation" (but it’s pretty much a given that she has it and even if she doesn’t get it we are going to take a little vacation there since it’s spring break.) I don’t know exactly WHERE they are shooting so I don’t know where to book a hotel, whether or not to take my car or the train, etc. (We live in Washington, about three hours from PDX.)
We are well, frankly, POOR, so we really need to save money by planning this trip out in advance. If anyone has any info on where they are shooting please let me know!
And in case anyone is wondering, extras get minimum wage, so this is no money making trip!
I love Buffy, but Twilight isn’t anything like it Buffy killed vamps, but she did love Angel but she wasn’t his singer like Bella is for Edward.I’m like alot of other people I have read above I’m worried about Jasper’s hair it does look a little weird but all in all I think they did a good job in casting.The only one I can say I’m really worried about is the guy they cast for Jacob:(but what do I know I’m just a fan patiently waiting for the release:)

High school girl falls in love with a vampire that can potentially turn evil and try to kill her (this actually happens season 2), and they have this dramatic tortured love affair. He wishes to keep her safe, and knows they can never truly be together unless she too were immortal. So AFTER HER PROM he tells her this, and soon leaves for her own good.
So yes there are similarities.
