The Obama campaign today contacted Jefferson High School about doing a meet-and-greet at the predominantly black school when the candidate swings through town on Friday.
“It’s kind of a big deal for us,” says Portland Public Schools spokesman Matt Shelby.
Shelby says nothing firm has been arranged, but the campaign contacted the school and the district is interested in helping plan an event.
Coincidentally, Friday happens to be an ideal day to visit Jeff, Shelby says. Students will be celebrating the school’s recent victory in the state 5A basketball championships.
After Obama’s speech Tuesday on race relations, Jefferson seems a natural stop during his one-day swing through Oregon.

And he wants to represent *all* Americans… yeah, right.
