yin_yang_beansLongtime Northwest 21st Avenue cocktail spot/cigar bar Brazen Bean is closing after losing the lease on its Victorian house digs at 2075 NW Glisan St.

Bean bartender Amy Cartwright called and followed up with an email to deliver the sad news:

I work at The Brazen Bean, 2075 NW Glisan. I have been a server and bartender there for the past 4 years. We have lost our lease at the bar and will be closing. It’s very short notice. They have given us a date of the 10th of April to be completely out. So, our last night for the bar to be open will be Saturday, April 5th.

There’s a silver lining to this cloud of cigar smoke though. It seems that Bean owner Huston Davis is currently looking a new locations for the bar around Portland. Anybody got suggestions for a new home?

We haven’t written about the spendy yet super romantic watering hole for quite a while. But in case you want a refresher, here’s the listing we included for it in our 2006 Drink guide:

Brazen Bean 2075 NW Glisan St., 294-0636. Nightly Monday-Saturday.
CHEERS: Infusions and people-watching are a must.
JEERS: Overwhelmed waitstaff.
Nestled in an old Victorian house, slightly off the beaten path of Northwest 21st Avenue, the Brazen Bean is an utter gem. And everyone here knows it. The entryway gleams with low-hanging trees bejeweled in charming white lights, coupled romantic seating and larger tables for the always diverse crowds that frequent this winning cocktail lounge. If you think this already sounds too good to be true, wait until you test out some of the finest mixology in Portland; not to be missed are the Apple Cilantro (tequila, triple sec, apple juice, cilantro and lime, $7) and the Ruby Cowboy (whiskey, cardamom and grapefruit juice, $6), perfect examples of the Bean’s ingenious and colorful concoctions. Extra added bonus: Happy hour consists of more than 25 specialty martinis at 4 bucks a saucer! HAPPY HOUR, DRINK SPECIALS, OUTDOOR SEATING. (Elianna Bar El)

I’ll update this post with info on where the venerable bar may be setting up shop next once I get a phone call back from owner Huston Davis.

they could take over the pink house on n. cook street – originally lovely hula hands, more recently the belgian embassy. portland food and drink chatter has it that the belgian embassy appears to be closed. that would be a great spot for the brazen bean.

This makes me ridiculously sad! In the summer, this place is a perfect drink destination that never makes you feel not cool enough to be there. You will be missed, Brazen Bean – keep in touch!

I am so bummed about this. We discovered "The Bean" last summer and have had many an adventure there. The drinks are epic for a number of reasons…but mostly, it is the potentcy and taste coupled with a delicious cocktail of spirits made for a great time. I hope to get on a mailing list or stay in the loop when they relocate. I am really bummed as this as been our after work watering hole for a now and was something we looked forward too to end the week. :( Thanks for everything Brazen Bean! :)

I do hope you stay in the same neighborhood. While there are a lot of bars in NW district, there aren’t a lot who do drinks anything like you guys in that area.

The Brazen Bean was truly a fun hotspot in NW and will be dearly missed! ;( Great drinks at a cheap price during happy hour and fantastic bartenders… we’ll miss Chris the most! ;)
