Oprah is promoting the hell out of tomorrow’s episode with Thomas Beatie.

Thomas is 34, happily married and…pregnant. Our cameras capture it all—the ultrasound, inside the nursery and more. How is this possible?

Most interesting question so far from the tease: “Do you our country, this world, is ready for this?”

Well, tomorrow we find out.

(BTW, not to sound shallow….but Thomas is one hot fella).

THOMAS_BEATIE
I should’ve known. I just emailed the pregnant man from Bend, Oregon, Thomas Beatie.
Since he said he wasn’t able to talk to the media (but knew this was the week the story would break) I asked him the following:

Thomas,
can you tell me what publication (print or broadcast) that you have signed an exclusive with? And when can viewers/readers expect the story to break?

Here was his short response:

Byron,

Oprah and People Magazine – this Thursday.

Thomas

A quick check on Oprah.com confirms it.

Then, tune in on Thursday
This is Thomas. He’s 34, happily married…and pregnant! An Oprah Show and People Magazine exclusive
.

So there you go people. Our nation’s “spiritual leader” Oprah has nailed down the interview. While I don’t think she spends a lot of dough on her guests, according to the New York Post, People does: People magazine, the category leader, has always insisted it doesn’t pay for news, which would be strictly against the policy of parent Time Inc. But the magazine has paid astronomical prices for exclusive photos.

I plan on tracking down People’s main go-to-gal for Northwest stories today to see if she will talk to me.

  1. LC says:

Why does everyone keep saying Beatie is a man? Hello, having a vagina and fully functioning uterus/fallopian tubes and other baby making equipment does not make you a man. This is not some freak of nature biology anomaly. Beatie was born a woman and did not have a full sex change. It’s really not that extraordinary. Except that they live in Medford. That’s the weird part.

  2. LC says:

Sorry, I meant Bend. Same, same but different.

  3. tyler shannon says:

    weirdo!!

  4. djm says:

Ah well. If you can’t get a man, be one.

  5. NEPDXGal says:

Nancy’s got herself a total stud. It must have been devastating come to terms with the inability to bring a deeply wanted child into a ten-year relationship. And I can only imagine how rare this must be- a transgender man that is secure enough in himself to bring a child into the relationship through his own biological means.
Best wishes for a healthy baby. It’s good to see someone that is willing to pioneer this trans issue into the public eye. I have no doubt that Thomas & Nancy have already grown thick skin & I hope it serves them well now. One day when parthenogenesis is available to couples of the same biological gender, we will certainly shock everybody all over again.

  6. Jen says:

I agree that this person is not really a man. I thought it was someone that was born a man. Its actually a woman that decided to become a man and keep her woman parts. Nothing medically groundbreaking here. Don’t believe the hype!

  7. Ben says:

Congrats to the happy couple! I hope that the onslaught isn’t too severe, but at least the child will have a happy family to give it tons of love and nurturing.

  8. Leland Gaunt says:

fucking attention whores geeez people get a life

  9. Bill says:

And it’s not an april fool’s joke, either.

  10. Irony Overlord says:

As commented elsewhere, you can hang a penis on an apple, but that doesn’t make it a "man". It’s just an apple with a penis.

  11. sandy says:

Yah- what is the big news here? It’s a woman. Big deal.So sick of the news sensationalizing everything. Why don’t they say, "Lesbian Pregnant."

Why didn’t his Wife carry the baby?
    she doesn’t look too old…?

  12. sara says:

if he gets his period then he is a woman in a man’s outfit… that is all..he behaved and certainly his charactor is 100% feminine.
