U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden endorsed his Democratic colleague, Senate candidate Jeff Merkley, at the headquarters for the Democratic Party of Oregon in Portland this morning.

The move comes early in the race, less than two weeks after the May 20 Democratic primary in which Merkley, Oregon’s House speaker, eked out a victory against party activist Steve Novick.

Wyden and Merkley used the occasion to distance themselves from Merkley’s opponent, Republican incumbent U.S. Sen. Gordon Smith, and Smith’s more conservative record — and to talk about their commitment to tackling health-care problems and global warming. Among other things, Merkley promised to sign on as a co-sponsor of Wyden’s Healthy Americans Act, a universal health-care proposal, if he’s elected in November. So far, Smith has not done so.

Well, duh, stop the presses!!!! Did anyone really expect him to endorse a Republican??? Good grief, where’s the story?

  2. jOHN h. jACKMAN says:

dump Wyden as he is already been shown as a phoney when it cones to veterans affairs. He promised so much and cared so little. Tied to him will only make the stories about you seem more true
