Two months after WW reported how Jeff Joslin (the man in the photo) and other Sauvie Island residents were fighting ESCO’s effort to double the size of an unlined industrial waste dump, comes news that ESCO is withdrawing its application.
Here’s ESCO’s letter [pdf] to employees outlining reasons—including neighbor opposition—for its decision to pull its application for a bigger dump.
ESCO vice president Cal Collins tells WWire the company will continue disposing foundry waste at the dump until the facility is full, which should take more than a decade at current fill rates.
Joslin, contacted on his way to raft the Deschutes, tells WWire that he’s obviously “very glad” about the application being pulled, saying, “It was the wrong application at the wrong place.”
