If you have a printer, chances are you also have a stack of junk pages sitting next to it—all those useless printout sheets created by overflow lines of copyright or legal disclaimer whenever you print out, say, a Google Map.
This coming Monday, instead of trying to ignore your growing tower of enviro-guilt, box it up and take it down to Pioneer Courthouse Square. From 9 am to 5 pm, the local software company GreenPrint, which makes printer software designed to eliminate those wasted pages, will be creating a “forest” of 3-foot stacks—representing the trees required to make that paper—and topping each with a sapling to be planted later in a clearcut area. GreenPrint will also be handing out copies of its software for home use (you can download the free version here—it’s Windows-only for now, but the company is working on a Mac version).
