oregon_fullpage_new1Lookit this: A preview of The Oregonian’s much-needed website redesign.
“You’ll want to bookmark OregonLive.com/news and come back several times a day,” promises the promo copy. “[Pretty please?]”
Sports and weather get more front-page play than on the daily’s current site. They’re also playing up the reader comments. And there looks to be an area where people can upload photos and videos, because, you know, it’s possible that a few people haven’t heard of Flickr and YouTube.

As has been pointed out at Oregon Media Insiders, the changes here mirror those at The O’s sister papers in the chain.

Overall, it’s an…improvement? Lateral move? Soon we’ll know.

Elsewhere in localnewspaperland, we got this email on Monday from The Skanner. It looks like they’re taking a tip from the Portland Tribune—Now Daily!*

  1. Kevin says:

We’ve had the new front page in New Orleans for a week now (www.nola.com). It’s not really a redesign (yet) – just a new front page portal.

Once you click around on it, it goes to the same old Advance.net layout and navigation that you know and love.

  2. Corey Pein says:

    That’s awful news, Kevin.

  3. Inkspot says:

Who cares? Until they change the rules that allow people to post on their blogs and forums under multiple names, the site will remain pointless. They say their forums are "popular." I doubt that very much. They have a few addicts posting away all day long using lots and lots of monikers, and not much else.
