As featured on the Oregon NORML website, a member of the pro-pot group recently photographed this incredible billboard on Highway 99E.

And it appears that you paid for it.

As revealed by NORML’s research, the group named on the billboard — Molalla Coalition Against Drug Crime — receives federal money from the Office of National Drug Control Policy.

Contacted this morning, the woman named on the feds’ website as a contact for the Molalla group declined to comment.

“I’m really not interested in any kind of interview on the billboard,” said Shirley Morgan. “But thanks so much for calling.”

As NORML points out (and backs up by citing numerous studies): “Marijuana is not a gateway to meth or any other drug, any moreso than coffee, nicotine, alcohol, sugar, or Flintstones Chewable Vitamins.”

Barack Obama’s answer to our question about federal marijuana policy gives one more reason to look forward to his inauguration on Jan. 20.

  1. Ed says:

Makes you wonder what kind of drugs these geniuses are on. As long as they’re disregarding the facts they should’ve done something more profound like, "Marijuana! A Gateway To Cannibalism!"

That would really scare the children.

  2. jeff taylor says:

Forgot what I was going to post. Anyway, I’m too hungry to concentrate right now. Gotta eat a census taker with some fava beans and nice Chianti…

Sure would be a shame if that billboard were struck by lightning. Hope vandals don’t modify it in the night-time; it’s message of truth and health needs to be protected from benighted hippies with poor impulse control/medical issues.

  3. Spungo says:

Having used to live in Molalla, I can safely assert that the town of Molalla itself is a gateway to meth.

  4. Sustain says:

Hemp is not only in direct competition with timber and petroleum, but also with many other industries throughout the world. Hemp offers wholesome and nutritious foodstuffs such as edible oil from the seeds, which are also used for making chocolate bars and other foods; renewable fiber for clothing and building. The original Levi jeans were made from hemp but lasted too long to be commercially viable; high grade papers, such as those used for bank notes, tissues, hand towels, and tea bags, where strength when wet is critical, and so much more.

Cannabis is a medicine that was created by nature, producing powerful documented results without the side effects of the manufactured chemicals that the drug companies peddle during every television commercial break.

  5. David says:

Lol, I whole-heatedly agree with the last comment. I lived 10 miles up the road from Molalla.

  6. jeff taylor says:

Ah sure do hope, Sustain, that you’re not one of those conspiracy theorists who think hemp is billed as dangerous solely for the benefit of the timber, petroleum, pharmaceutical, fiber, delicatessen and military-arms industries, rather than out of pure civic interest in the happiness and health of Americans. The only reasons I ever tried the damn stuff were the movies above, and the fact that my PE teacher suggested it would kill me with one puff unless I built up my C/V system.

Mollala sounds like it was named by stoned Indians. No offense to its wonderful, free-speech tolerant people.

How much to rent a billboard that reads, "God commands you to drive in the other lane now. Don’t think. Just do it!"

  8. brend says:

truth… smoked a lot of weed, ate some adderall to study. adderall’s an amphetamine. I lose.

  9. Clarke says:

Really? I’ve been smoking weed for years, when should I expect to transition to meth??

  10. Mak says:

It should be pointed out that Shirley Morgan’s side kick, Clackamas Countie’s Weed and Seed Deputy Brandon Claggett was recently fired for amoung other things sending pictures of his genetals to underage girls that he had been taking for ride-alongs. Shirley Morgan has been totally discredited in her Mt. Hood community and is considered a deranged nut by most community members.
