City Hall Adams
For the sixth fifth straight week at a Wednesday City Council meeting, Mayor Sam Adams and his four colleagues on City Council will face some angry Portland residents calling on the mayor to resign.

Among the five people signed up to address Adams tomorrow during the opening minutes of the council’s weekly public meeting is Annette Smith Levy of Southeast Portland. She is bringing two friends from the CherryWood Village Retirement Community’s swim class to back her up as she peppers Adams and what she calls “the four stooges up there” with questions. The 61-year-old retiree voted last year for Adams’ primary opponent Sho Dozono. Now she says she plans to ask Adams’ colleagues in City Hall to demand his resignation.

The last person signed up to give three minutes of public testimony, Dick Hall, was tiling the floor of his daughter’s home when WW interrupted to ask Hall what he planned to say. The retired trucking company administrator, who lives in outer Southeast Portland, was pretty clear about his goal. He says Adams should have resigned “yesterday” and that individual Portlanders need to stand up for what they think is right.

Previous confrontations at City Council meetings have been fairly heated. Other protesters, like the two men picture above in a photograph from January, have taken a quieter approach.

  1. Bill Cameron says:

I have a dream, a dream of a day when the private sexual behavior of people is no longer a part of our politics.

    • Portlander 100 says:

I have a dream, a dream of the day when public servants who admit to lying to obtain office, and then lying to their fellow public servants, staff and the public, are held to an ethical standard and kicked the hell out.

  2. Portlander 100 says:

Okay, Adams supporters. what are you going to do about these homophobic, right-wing, nutcase, sex-obsessed, Limbaugh-loving, prudish women?

because obviously, that’s what they are–Storm Large and Thomas Lauderdale told us so (about anybody calling for Adams’ resignation.)

I mean–they can’t have a legitimate concern, now can they? admitting that would mean admitting that maybe, just MAYBE, there’s a larger segment of Portland that you’re willing to admit that wants Adams OUT.

naah. you’ll just either (a)blame WW, or (b)yawn and wonder what all the fuss about "honesty in public office" and "ethics" is about.

  3. DudeY says:

It is time for Nigel and Mark to appear personally at the City Hall and assault the Mayor, instead of enticing the less fortunate peeps to make fools of themselves.

    • annie says:

Dude Y, why aren’t you involved in your own community. You sit somewhere far away, not even in the city of Oregon, coached by the creed of an extreme agenda, that has nothing to do with our city, our region, our citizens. It’s why none of you and your group of haters, can answer one single question as to why you support the mayor. You don’t have a clue, because you don’t live here. Yet you’re content to latch onto Portland, like he mutts you are posing like you give a flying fig about anything. This is a huge sick joke to you and YoungLady, Observer, Boy 22 and Boy 24, Chocolate Lover, Jeff Kurse, Andrew KLKS, Mamaro, and the on and on. Your names may change but your voice wont. It is the voice of ignorance, and you hide behind that ignorance. You are imposters
with an agenda to DISARM, DEMEAN, DISTRACT. You are enemies of the equal rights movement.

  4. anton_Chigurh says:

I have a dream, a dream of a day when ‘man boy love’ and ‘chicken hawking’ is OK with more than 44% of the people in Portland. (44% was the support for Sam to stay in office in a recent scientific survey of 500 Portland citizens, $48 were for resignation)

    "17 year olds Dude"

  5. Sam, a disgrace you am! says:

I have a dream too. A dream when one day our elected leaders will not have deliberately lied to gain office.

When a mayor will behave honorably and not abuse a position of power to seduce underage children.

When politicians will finally put the needs of their public before their own ego and power-hungry desires.

A dream, yes. Perhaps one day…

Out, Sam, OUT! You are a disgrace.
Keep up the good work, WW.

  6. Diva says:

Oh, please all you people, leave him alone! We voted him into office because we thought he was the best man for the job, and he is. This minor infraction is just that-minor. Whatever he did with Beau was consentual, and should just be left alone. Yes, it would have been better if he had told the truth in the beginning, but at least he confessed and is trying to move on. Give it up! Do something better with your life than trying to destroy this man. Stand up for animal cruelty, stand up for child abuse…(and NO Adams is NOT a pedophile).

    • annie says:

Save it Diva! We’ve heard it all before.

    • Portlander 100 says:

"This minor infraction is just that-minor."

good grief. if lying to obtain public office (then admitting it) is "minor" to you, then I don’t even know what to tell you. you’re lost.

"Do something better with your life than trying to destroy this man."

Do something better with your life than equivocating for abuse of power.

    • pdxrocks says:

Sam’s doing a fine job of destroying himself. We just want him to be held accountable for his abuse of political power. And we want to have an honest and fair election.

    • Just a question... says:

Diva, It’s so interesting that you care so much about Sam, a man who destroyed another to win an election. Why don’t you care as much about Bob Ball?

  7. ChocolateLover says:

I LOVE it when the less fortunate peeps become really apoplectic of sanctimonious anger. This is SO FUN! Thank you, Nigel!

PS 18yos are as sweet as chocolate. Yum!

    • msmith55 says:

I love it when ProSammers disencumber themselves of logic and resort to trolling and moronic hyperbole. Quite entertaining really, as well as being a demonstration of the obtuse nature of their understanding of adult issues.

  8. DudeY says:

I agree with ChocolateLover that this forum becomes increasingly entertaining and fun. Especially now that we have spry retirees joining Nigel and Co. As for 18-year olds, they are surely tasty but after the tasting, you often have to xplain to them why this fun cannot last, and so on. This is too much trouble, in my opinion. My vote goes to 21-year-olds, who are still very appetizing but much wiser. What do you think, folks?

    • annie says:

I think you better go look at your reflection in your steel toe boots, now that you and the Chocoholic have outed yourselves for what your motives are for being on this site, trying to bash down the work of LGBT rights.

  9. DudeY says:

    Test

Do you agree or disagree with the following statements? (Give yourself 1 for each YES, and 0 for each NO).

    1) Kissing a obese 57 yo is much more appropriate than kissing a hot 17 yo.

    2) When candidates for public offices are asked about their masturbation routine, they should tell the truth.

    3) Printing sex news is good for newspaper business.

    4) Because of homosexuals, Portland is becoming as disgusting as San Francisco.

    5) Jews are unpleasant.

    6) People with education have too much power in our city.

    7) Foreigners are weird and often dangerous.

    8) Jews, foreigners, and homosexuals are oversexed.

    9) We need more highways and less public transit.

    10) Sam is a predator.

If your score is 10: you are admiring readers of this paper’s coverage of the mayor.

If your score is 0: this paper’s coverage of the mayor makes you sick.

    • annie says:

Don’t you have a gator to go arm wrestle back there in Deliverance Ville, or something?

    • Lollipop says:

Thank you, DudeY, for the fun test. I got 1: obviously, printing sex news is good for business. Where does it put me?

    • annie says:

Evil twin Annie with a capital A has showed up again. It’s that Borderline Personality Disorder thing you need to address, just like back in jr. high. Cut back on the booze, and chocolate…plan a trip to Tuscany in the spring. You don’t have to play silly rude games on blog sites anymore. Don’t waste it.

  10. msmith55 says:

One can tell by the efforts of a few ( paid ? ) shills that the ProSammers are rapidly loosing ground in their campaign to convince anyone that Adams has any credible political capital left.
One need only look to the caliber of speakers and atendees at successive city council meetings to realize the homophobe stereotyping is as erroneous in nature as is the issue of Adams "sexual life" being the issue.

When Adams, in a very calculated and insideous move, released dis-information about his sex life to the public in a very patronizing and sanctimonious letter to Portland: http://www.commissionersam.com/node/2801

He did this with one and only one thing in mind – illicit votes from gay-friendly Portlanders who may have otherwise voted for someone else.
IMO, this is election fraud. At the very least is a determined effort to manipulate the vote.

When confronted with this ( after gaining office ) Adams deliberately lied and lied again to cover his actions.
This is a violation of CoP Code of Ethics and a violation of the Public Trust.
Moronic hyperbole designed to distract or deflect from the issues of corruption is a last resort of the desperate.
    Keep it up!

  11. Miguel says:

Anti-gay bigotry is the only reason people want Sam Adams to resign. He did nothing illegal and he should have never been asked about it in the first place. Anti-gay bigots can’t stand that gay people have sex lives.

    • annie says:

It makes me a little sick to my stomach to respond to a ass like you, but you need a little lesson on who posts here.

Contrary to your ignorant statement about the people who want Sam out as being "Anti-Gay"…you Toad….

Many of us have gay family members, we love with all our heart and who have just a strong position in the family as any hetrosexual family member.

Many of us have gay friends we love on an equal basis to our hetero friends.

Many of us work with large numbers of gays, who are as productive, creative, fascinating, interesting, fun, beautiful and fantastic as any of the others who happen to be heterosexual.

I would also venture to say many of the voices on this site are the voices of gay people themselves.

It’s posts such as yours and so many of the so called "Sam Supporters", who try to pass themselves off as either being gay, or in support of the gay movement, but in most cases ARE NOT!

If you were, you would get everything I just said.

The Movement for Equal Rights Within the Gay Community, and within the LGBT Community is set back inot the dark ages with the continuous spewing of crap like yours.

  12. Tom Cardellino says:

To answer the question of the bigot’s sign that demands: "Want Sam to Mentor Your Kids?", my unabashed answer would have to be "Yes!" This inter-generational affair, where the younger "willing" participant has expressed no sense of regret or remorse, would never have seen the light of day were it not for homophobic detractors waiting in the wings to paint the issue with the "disgust" typical of hetero dominionists that wait like vermin for any opening they can exploit to sloppily "prove" their prejudice that all things gay are somehow noxious. John McCain’s second wife Cindy is how much younger than him? Why no sign-crrying pickets to decry this May-December romance. Oh, that’s right, they’re married as all "good" heterosexual people have a right to be! Fuck you hetero bigots & all the traps you’ve spent decades building in order to denigrate gay relationships!

    • annie says:

Please refer to my comment #27, to Miguel….who is another moron such as yourslef posing to be a friend of the Gay Rights Community.

  13. Tom Cardellino says:

Yay! Let’s demand a higher standard from those audacious gay people who dare to seek public office, okay? Maybe that will keep them in their place, right? And then we won’t have to think of our heterosexual selves as an oppressive majority who’s collective head is so far up our asses that we only see "crimes" where queers are involved – whether their consensual selves agree to their private actions or not! After all, it’s the 21st century, not medieval Rome’s reign of the Inquisition, where we could have poked our prudish noses into anyone’s private affairs for the amusement of the ignorant masses, right?

    • msmith55 says:

      Bravo Tom
Thanks for the rant that continually demonstrates the point that ProSammers "demand" Adams get a free pass on CoP Code of Ethics.
And that little lie entitled "An open letter to Portlanders" – us homophobes MADE him write that – right ?
      Thanks for supporting the recall.

    • annie says:

"Tom Cardellino", that Red Herring don’t swim in the Willamette Week. Please refer to my Comment #27.
The Gay Community cringes each time a comment like yours is posted (no matter which one of your aliases you post under).

    • Portland Citizen 12 says:

Yay! Let’s pretend that a city that overwhelmingly voted in a gay mayor is now suddenly homophobic and oppressive!

Seriously, "Tom." nice try. FAIL, but nice try.

  14. Truth says:

Hey Zusman and Jaquass, when did you stop beating your wives?

  15. pdxrocks says:

Sam’s supporters can’t defend him legitimately so all they can to is attack and detract from the real issue. They just can’t accept the fact that their man is severely ethically challenged so they stoop to mudslinging – how typical! Isn’t that exactly what Sam did to cover up the truth?

  16. tw says:

If Adams doesn’t resign, he’s going to be recalled.
His refusal to resign exhibits the same myopia that lead him to Breedlove’s birthday party, the same poor judgment that lead him to bellicose lying throughout the campaign, and the same Bush-like insulated bunker mentality that lead him to surround himself with unqualified loyalists.
It’s not surprising that Adams has his supporters and it’s not surprising that WW has its critics. What is surprising is that Adams hasn’t resigned. Because any way you cut it, it’s corruption corruption corruption. That’s not a "mistake" one gets a pass on by apologizing.
Adams is going to be recalled if he doesn’t resign, count on it. Adams needs to resign. Yesterday.

  17. Annie says:

Come on, guys. You are hitting it off TOO quickly. This is a public space, after all.
Anyway, I got 3. (It is because I love hearing about masturbation!). But why do you want to produce free content for this rag, though? You are too good for it, guys.
