And the Rick Emerson Army rejoices.

Local radio man Rick Emerson, who currently talks about all things pop culture, obsessive-compulsive, bacon and Battlestar Galactica from 11 am to 3 pm on Portland’s AM 970 The Talker, is taking over KUFO 101 FM’s prime morning show slot (5-9 am) starting this Thursday. He’ll replace the Adam Carolla Show. No loss there.

According to CBS Radio marketing honcho Susan Reynolds, the Rick Emerson Show is sliding over to its sister station KUFO, which shares a downtown Portland studio with 970 AM, with its team intact—including producer Sarah X. Dylan and whipping boy Ritchie Bristol. Even better, the show will reunite Emerson and producer Sarah X. Dylan with their beloved longtime newsman Tim Riley, who was laid off from CBS Radio last December. The layoff prompted Emerson to launch a “Laid off Journalists” program on his 970 AM show, that invited unemployed media types to read the news on his show each day.

Emerson’s show, filled with Rick’s free association diatribes and heaps of love for all things nerdy, has long been a cult favorite obsession among Portlanders—the show even boasts its own “Army” of local fans. No doubt the morning drive time slot will only up the recruitment numbers.

I’ve got a call in to Emerson, so I’ll post more details once I’ve got ‘em.

  6. sraosha says:

FM will be good, but will miss daytime show. Will have to choose between Mark & Brian and Rick.

  7. Gary from Gresham says:

    Excellent! Welcome back, Tim Riley!!!!!!!

    Best Show Ever!!!

  8. Jacob says:

It’s about effing time. I must inform you that I am an Emerson groupie, and this makes me happy. Tim Riley is god!

  9. Jack says:

An interesting next step in the agonizing journey of Emerson into adulthood. Somebody better have a good show coming for midday though, now is not the time to force me to turn the radio off and actually concentrate on working from 9 to 3 every damn day!

  10. Autumn says:

omg omg omg omg omg!!! this kicks so much ass!!! I’m so friggin’ excited I can barely stand it!! Best Birthday present EVER!!!!!!!

  11. Shell says:

Fan- frackin- tastic….. Best news everrrr. Welcome back Mr Riley.

  12. mindless drone says:

Finally I can listen whilst at work. AM radio waves are no match for the concrete and steel of the workplace.

For once I’m glad I’m up at 5 in the morning.

  13. Swerjis says:

    Bad Ass.
    Yeah!
    Real Bad Ass~
Better than Barry Manilow and free toasters!

  14. Whatever says:

No loss there?! I think Carolla is very funny and intelligent. At least there’s Carolla’s uncensored (and #1 on iTunes I might add) podcast. Congrats to fans of Emerson…I just don’t think you need to bag on Carolla in the process.

  15. Alex says:

I agree with whatever. Adam Carolla’s show IS a loss. He had one of the best radio shows on the air, and to just brush it off as worthless is not right.

  16. jason says:

No loss? Who the hell do you think your readers are? Did you even listen or was he just, "the man show" guy..

  17. Nice says:

Is there really any need for the "No great loss" comment about Adam Carolla’s show being canceled? It’s a pretty great loss to the millions of people who listened to him in the mornings. And now Mr. Carolla’s got one of the top podcasts in the world. He’s only been at it for a few weeks and he’s already cracked 500,000 downloads for a single episode. I see no reason to take a cheap shot at a true radio talent.

  18. Cluckie McBadass says:

I’m not sure why you felt it necessary to throw in an unwarranted dig at the Adam Carolla Show into this article. It most certainly IS a loss.

  19. Josh says:

I’d rather listen to Adam Carolla napping than one more nerdy hipster radio venue.

  20. Brian says:

Adam Carolla was one of the few bright spots on an otherwise lackluster programming schedule. While it might be nice to have Emerson back, I’m already missing the Carolla show. Try thinking before you write.

  21. Irene says:

JEALOUS!!!! leave Adam Alone, cause he is cooler and knows how to make a podcast!! http://www.carollaradio.com

  22. Alex says:

About time someone put Rick Emerson on FM!!!

Pretty early time slot, though. Oy!

  23. Janitor Jon says:

It’s about freaking time! Tim Riley is still, and will always be my god.

  24. Jon in the Beave says:

Rick, Sarah, Tim, Ritchie – finally on FM. All is right with the world.

  25. gamesforinsects says:

Nothing wrong with Corolla, he’s a smart guy, I’ve liked him since his days on Loveline. But Portland is a special place and it deserves a **local and live** host that reflects its eclectic wackiness. The Emerson Army strides forth!

  26. chris says:

huh…first time/last time listener to the Rick show this morning. i was very disappointed. *missing adam :(

  27. DB says:

Good lord you cannot replace Carolla with these guys but at least it is local….Will skip these guys and their sponsors.

  28. Dan says:

Who the "F" is Rick Emerson, and what the "F" happened to Adam? I’ll be listening to Mark and Brian from now on.

  29. Rob says:

It’s a glorious day for the Emerson crew. Congratulations. Sadly, I’m kind of a lush and rarely get up before 9. Good luck with 5 am, guys. Jesus.

  30. SEANA says:

I am sooooooooooo UPSET… & VERY MAD… There is NO WAY you can replce Adam Carolla!! I miss him.. I tried listening to the new show – nope it wont work for me! I don’t like it so I am back to listening to MARK & BRIAN.. KUFO you just lost a faithful listener.. shame on you guys taking Adam off the air!!!!

  31. dave says:

oh my GOD! WHAT are you DOING to me?
no, this can’t be happening. isn’t anyone listening out there? reek emerstupid can never replace A A Adam Caroll out the barrel –a!

  32. jon says:

Big fan of Rick & crew – so far show is good, and the return of Tim and his malapropisms also count as a plus. Not a fan of the KUFO music programming, so the inclusion of the music on/between bumpers is pretty whack.

  34. no says:

So many retarded people posting here. KUFO didn’t kick Carolla off. CBS took him off the air everywhere. And I’m sorry if you’re too much of a mouth-breather to comprehend Emerson. Your loss. Enjoy your morning fart sounds with Weanie and the Bean.

  36. OC Jason says:

Hi there! Some suggestions: rehire Ritchie Bristol, dump the music (you have 20 hours the rest of the day to play the same 8 songs in your rotation) and bring back the Rick Emerson Show! Thank you, that is all. Watch out for Snakes!

  37. Seldom Seen says:

I agree with OC Jason. There was nothing wrong with the old show at AM970. If people want to listen to music, they’re going to turn on an iPod. And what the hell happened to Ritchie, anyway?? He added another dimension to the show, albeit a strange one.
