Brandon Roy, seen here looking real good in a Dime Magazine photo shoot, was announced as the Western Conference Player of the Week today. Good lookin’ out, NBA. B-Roy’s contributions don’t always explode all over the stat sheet (though the numbers look nice this week), but he’s certainly been a leader for Portland.
In related news, my boy Wendell Maxey from Hoopsworld asked Blazer coach Nate McMillan whether he should be a Coach of the Year candidate. His response was pretty Nate.

BRANDON ROY NAMED NBA’S WESTERN CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Trail Blazers win four games in five daysPORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week, it was announced Monday by the NBA.
Roy guided the Trail Blazers to a 4-0 week, including road victories against the San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and L.A. Clippers, and a home win vs. the L.A. Lakers. The third-year Trail Blazer and two-time NBA All-Star averaged 22.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.50 steals while shooting 47.5% (29-61) from the floor in four starts. He led Portland in scoring three times and assists twice in four games last week.
At 52-28 overall, the Trail Blazers have clinched their first playoff berth since 2003 and are currently tied for third place in the Western Conference standings. Portland’s 52 wins are the most by a Trail Blazers team since 1999-2000.
Other nominees for the honor were Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry, Houston’s Luis Scola and New Orleans’ Chris Paul. Chicago’s Ben Gordon was chosen as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
Roy, 24, garnered the award for the fourth time in his career after winning it for the week of Nov. 24-30 earlier this season and in back-to-back weeks last season (Dec. 9 and Dec. 16). He joins Clyde Drexler as one of two players in franchise history to win the award four times.
