Portland Public Schools’ Board of Education is honoring the district’s newest crop of valedictorians tonight. Then it’s moving on to discuss the district’s disciplinary policy, which for years has disproportionately punished students of color in the district’s poorest schools, including Roosevelt, Madison, Jefferson and Marshall high schools.

The two topics will provide quite the contrast for anyone attending the 7 pm meeting or watching from home on Channel 28.

This year, Cleveland High School has 18 valedictorians, Grant has 19, Lincoln has 18 and Wilson has 19.

Jefferson has half as many students as Lincoln, but only 1 valedictorian. Madison has 5. Roosevelt has 3 and Marshall has 3.

    Grade inflation?

Wow, is grade inflation like compound interest?

Why not make the whole class co-valedictorians and end the farce? Sheesh…

Was that the real reason you dropped out? Felt you should have been a valedictorian too but without putting in the work? But hey! Look where it got you in the end, Professor Inflated.
