As first noted on bojack this morning, organizers of the effort to recall Mayor Sam Adams have announced a slight delay in their gathering of signatures to get that recall question on a city ballot.

Recall spokesman Jasun Wurster tells WW that the filing of the campaign documents to get 32,000-plus valid signatures will begin July 7 instead of July 1, the first day they could legally begin their effort.

Wurster says the Committee to Recall Sam Adams decided on the July 7 date because the 90-day clock to gather the signatures begins the day they file notice of their effort, and they feared losing a week because of calendar quirks with city and state elections officials.

That’s because Friday, July 3 is a city holiday. And Monday, July 6 is a furlough day in the Secretary of State’s office. So recallers’ worry was that if they filed notice of their campaign July 1 and they didn’t hear back from elections officials by the end of business July 2, they would in effect not be able to gather signatures legally until July 7 even though the 90-day clock would have begun July 1.

Meantime, Wurster says he’s confident the $1,600 raised so far will be enough to run a volunteer campaign that goes door-to-door and hits other neighborhood events such as the car-free Sunday Parkways and farmers’ markets. The group has a meet-and-greet scheduled this Wednesday for interested volunteers from 3 pm to 7 pm at Coffee Lovers (4144 SE 60th Ave.)

  1. Hi All,

The $1,600 raised thus far is enough to get the 6,000 petitions and initial 10,000 door hangers printed up. We will be signing a $4500 contract later this week with an Oregon company for access to web interface to print voter lists. We very much need donations to pay for this crucial piece of our volunteer grassroots Neighbor-To-Neighbor campaign.

Now is the time we need you most to volunteer and donate to hold Sam Adams accountable for his willful lies to get elected, orchestration of an elaborate cover-up and abuse of power.

Please do visit the website to sign up to help and donate.

Together we will make our government better,

    Jason,

Some advice from one who was involved in the campaign to recall Vera and also the PBA’s effort to overturn VOE.

Check your own signatures before you turn them in. The other side can, and will, sign phonies and intentional duplicates to get as many as possible thrown out through statistical sampling. Set up a database and
have your volunteers key in the names on the sheets as you gather.

If business people agree to have petitions in their businesses, make sure they are protected. There was a whole stack of recall Vera petitions that were snatched off the hostess desk of a local restaurant… pages and pages.

You need more money. Period. Reach out to the business community. They are scared of retribution from Adams, but they can contribute $99 and not show up on the campaign finance reports. You only need sixteen businesses to cough up and you have doubled your budget. You would probably be very successful if you hit up the businesses from 82nd avenue east. You can take donations from anybody.. they don’t have to be in Portland.

    Question:
Why The Recall Sam Adams Committee Will Wait For a Bit To Start Collecting Signatures?

    Answer:
Because they’re coming to the realization that without an indictment from Kroger their effort is laughable.

Remember how successful the recall of Katz was? Oh wait…I had forgot that even happened until someone reminded me.

I thought you were all about soccer and TA, Blackedout. what in the world would you be doing on a story about recalling Sam?

Oh wait, does it have anything to do with needing Sam in office to get your soccer stadium “with atmosphere” all situated by booting the Beavers out to Lents or killing the MC for Paulson’s AAA full city view stadium, and the exposure a few of you have been working on for several years to get TA noticed for radio and t.v. spots?

Oh wait….what will the opportunistic TA members all do if you have to share the stadium with the Beavers, and made to deal with roll away bleachers? Since it apparently isn’t about soccer any more, but all about the show in the stadium. No wonder jerks like you have been building the TA into an “atmosphere sucking monster”, and keeping your fan base drunk to the gills.

Oh BTW, how do the forgotten Timbers Soccer Players feel about your and J.Wright/gingerdad, and the gang’s power grab away from the athletic endeavor, and the rush to make it all about you guys and what you can make on the deal?

When some of the innocent TA members begin to wake from the spell, you users have worked very hard at keeping them in, it will be interesting to see if they can still appreciate soccer for what it really is, without that “atmosphere” thing you’ve been cramming down their collective throats.

You have run so many articles about every detail of this recall effort that I’m starting to wonder … are you promoting it? Or have you just been manipulated?

The only new information here is that the filing of some paperwork will be delayed a few days. Is that really news? Especially after we’ve been hearing about this recall effort every five minutes. Especially when they’re so few volunteers and so little money involved after such an enormous media blitz? The Caeser Chavez petitioners have a much bigger effort going on, but they don’t get nearly the same amount of ink. It hurts your credibility when your coverage makes this sound like you’re on a witch hunt.

    • annie says:

So Edward, are we to understand that you don’t see our city’s national recognition on several levels, while at the same time we are dealing with a mayor under investigation by the state AG, on top of all else that he has heaped on Portland effecting Portland’s morale and check book (ie.corporate stadiums proposals planned to be built on our dime), and his chronic issues with lying and recent attempts to misalign the reputations of Oregon Senators, his habit of hiring incompetents to watch HIS back at City Hall, over hiring those best equipped to pedal PORTLAND along, and his pending RECALL… newsworthy?

Well pup, a growing number of Portlanders, do find all information keeping us up to speed with the scoundrel/ruler in office’s dysfunctions, informative.

It all has a place in the scrapbook on The Loony Tune Mayor.

    Dear Blockhead,or is it Blackedout:

My BAD,had a root canal at 7:15 this am and the good stuff is worn out.

The Katz recall, was a learning issue for me for sure…”LESSON ONE”: When ten guys all have a bit more talk then walk, standing at the bar at “Jakes” with more then one cocktail on board, and say they would front the 72,000 dollar budget a well known local Portland asked them for on my course of action to recall her, and then go “limp” because they were afraid of city hall ,and when it came to to collect…they went south.

I refused to wash the money through a PAC, one of my committee guys had, and do it all above board.

All to this day have been impacted alright again, but not in a positive way by Sam and Randy. I hear through sources, they wish now they had,it may have sent a message to Vera’s little boy, not to be so “prissy” and arrogant!

Second lesson: Vett your committee members hard..two of my people were too close to city hall, One a member of the gay community, and a lawyer, the other a community guy in the NW part of town, which included Vera’s neighborhood association.

When they left, after finding out we were way short of dollars..plan “B” was no good.

One of those..the lawyer, went to work almost the day he left, at city hall, the other guy I think was traded my demise for some “candy” for his neighborhood as well.

While I have concern about something’s now in the recall…WE NEVER HAD 550 PEOPLE SIGNED TO COLLECT THE SIGNATURES.

Maybe he will….maybe he will not get him, but even the serious Left folks, and the gay folks, are having serious second thoughts.

Randy is like Joe Bidden(the gift that keeps on giving)even if Randy shuts up(fat chance on that)and Sam goes to the movies in Vancouver again, there always is a chance!!!

    • annie says:

Too funny JP. “Blockhead”. Wish I’d thought of that one. Best wishes for quick recovery on the very fun root canal.
