Drink to a good cause this Saturday, July 11, at Lompoc Brewing’s Fifth Quadrant as they commemorate Oregon homebrewer Bob Farrell with the last beer he brewed before losing his battle with cancer. The Bob Farrell Braggot is a traditional braggot, half ale and half mead, finished in the fall of 2008 just before Farrell’s death in the spring. The brew, made with Willamette Valley honey from Buckwheat and Fireweed flowers, is aged and ready to serve, with proceeds from its sale benefiting the Oregon Brew Crew and portions going to Farrell’s family for medical costs. Sample his final masterpiece at the bar or take a 22-ounce bottle to go for $9.
The release party begins at noon and end at 5 pm, conveniently overlapping with Pix Patisserie’s Bastille Day Block Party, which kicks off at 11 am with live music, DJs, a mini marathon, and a dog parade. There will even be a Dunk Tank featuring Lompoc brewers: pay a dollar for the opportunity to embarrass a stranger and support Locks of Love and the Bob Farrell Fund.
