Sam Adams- Pride Parade

Blogger Jack Bogdanski alerted readers today of an alleged poll that appears to be aimed at gauging and perhaps rallying support for embattled Mayor Sam Adams.

WW spoke to the person who tipped Bogdanski to the poll. That person requested anonymity but reiterated that the questions seemed to be directed at strengthening public perception of the mayor, who races a recall effort that kicked off earlier this week.

It remains unclear exactly who is behind the poll. Mayoral spokesman Roy Kaufmann proved to be less than a fountain of information when asked about it.

“State election law prohibits any city staff member from devoting city time or resources to a pending election measure. As such, I can’t comment. Thanks,” Kaufmann wrote in an email this afternoon.

Two other interesting points: According to the person who was polled, the questions came from the Nevada office of McGuire Research. The same company’s controversial poll played a major role in the 2008 mayoral race. It is likely that McGuire is a contractor to a pollster who designed questions and is working for somebody in Portland.

The second point: Adams does not have any money in his campaign coffers to pay for a poll. No doubt we’ll be hearing more about who does in coming days.

The same company’s controversial poll played a major roll in the 2008 mayoral race.

Role. Then again, maybe “roll” makes more sense. Adams threw the dice, gambled on lying, and won.

  2. Andy from Beaverton says:

“Adams does not have any money in his campaign coffers to pay for a poll.” He doesn’t have enough personal money to pay for a poll either. Maybe he can get a seventh mortgage or ask Beau to pay the money back he gave him?

I didn’t know BoJerk was writing about anything else but Palin and her baby. Maybe the therapy sessions have worked with his obsessive blogging?

  3. tw says:

There is no longer any popular support for Adams so this is clearly the effort of some apparatchik with a vested interest in Adams’ survival. That’s a very, very small group of people.

As so perfectly stated in The Wire, if you follow you drugs you get junkies, but if you follow the money there’s no telling where you’ll end up.

What’s with the line-throughs? Were you hacked?

  5. Edward says:

I doubt this recall will amount to much, even if the Oregonian and WW are mad they haven’t gotten the sensational story they were hoping for out of it. It’s time to move on. What a waste of time and ink this has been for everyone.

    • tw says:

Perhaps Adams’ best chance of surviving the recall rests on the hope that most Portlanders are as cynical, irresponsible and unswervingly stupid as his supporters. Yours would be a pyrrhic victory, Edward.

Dear Eddie: “the sensational story”..HELL Eddie, where the hell have you been?

Lies..lies..stupid people, and stupider decisions..more lies..covert coverups..so far no one has been knocked off, YET.

In time, someone will write a book about Sam, an NEIL AND OLD TERRY,will look white glove clean.

  7. G Weiss says:

Until and unless someone finds a recallable offense committed by Sam, this is over and it’s time to move on. I don’t like many of the projects and decisions Sam has made as Mayor, and I probably won’t vote for him again, but nothing he has done rises to the level of a recallable offense for me.

And, no, lying to the press about your personal life is not a recallable offense. It might mark you as not the brightest tool in the shed, but it’s your personal sex life and nobody’s business as long as no crime is committed.

  8. Portland's No Longer Weird, Hipsters says:

I probably won’t vote for him again, but nothing he has done rises to the level of a recallable offense for me.

Adams publicly admitting that he lied to obtain public office, and several staff members (and at least one City Council member) publicly stating that he lied to them repeatedly is not a “recallable offense”?

    • G Weiss says:

No, they are not recallable offenses. They are lies told to protect the privacy of his personal life–something that’s not open for public examination or debate. I have no problem with him lying, even repeatedly, about his personal sex life. It is not a recallable offense.

  9. pdxrocks says:

The lies, the cover-up, ruining a political opponent’s reputation, asking other to lie for you – these are all recallable offenses. Sam has admitted he lied to get elected. He’s breached the city code of ethics. He’s unethical and untrustworthy. He’ll throw anyone under the bus to save himself. He deserves to be recalled because he’s unworthy of his elected position. This shouldn’t be hard for thinking people to understand.

    • G Weiss says:

It is not hard to understand–it is also not a recallable offense–it is his personal sex life and therefore not hard to understand he would lie to protect it. I won’t vote for him again, probably, but it does not become a recallable offense because I disagree with his professional decisions. His personal sex life is nobody’s business–including mine, his staff, his allies, his opponents, and anybody else.

  10. kickrocksman says:

If you support Adams staying in office then you support liars and racists, pure and simple. you are well in the minority of public opinion and you’re a part of the problem, not the solution to our city’s numerous messes.

This guy is a scumbag and he can’t go away fast enough. Maybe then our communities can heal and we can move forward with a public servant that is interested in servi8ng his public, not special interests by a microcosm of militant racist dickbags.

If it wasn’t for the fat paychecks he apparently needs, then I think he would’ve stepped down. Let’s kick him out and cut him off for all the damage he has caused Portland residents from all cultures.

    • blackedout says:

How exactly are Adams supporters supportive of racists?

Actually could you please reinterpret the rest of your post as well? Its almost unintelligible. Perhaps you should sober up before you do that?

Dear Black: Typical response from a Lib, WHEN YOU KNOW HE NAILED YOU 100 PERCENT!
