The Oregon Employment Department’s latest breakdown today of unemployment numbers last month by county remains bleak.

Here are some of the lowlights from the state’s overall 12.2 percent unemployment rate, which is third-worst in the nation behind Michigan and Rhode Island.

_Multnomah County’s seasonally adjusted rate continued to slide, hitting 11.7 percent — compared to 11.5 percent last month.

_And rural Oregon remains hard-hit in spots with unemployment in Crook County climbing from 20.5 percent to 22.6 percent, and in Grant County from 13.8 percent to 14.5 percent.

There were some hints of improvement elsewhere, though rates continue to be historically sky-high.

_The unemployment rate for the Porttland-Beaverton-Vancouver area improved to 11.6 percent from 12.1 percent. Other metropolitan service areas in Bend, Corvallis, Eugene-Springfield, Medford and Salem showed similar improvements.
