According to a postcard (see below) printed on very nice stock and slipped under our windshield wiper during this weekend’s Portland Farmers Market, this Sunday, Aug. 23 is “National ‘Go-Topless’ Day.” The national event, which organizes women in cities across the country to bare their breasts to protests discriminatory public nudity laws (note—link almost certainly NSFW), is organized by the Raelian Movement, a sex-positive fringe religion, founded by a French former sports-car journalist named Claude Maurice Marcel Vorilhon, which “recognizes that life on Earth was created by advanced extraterrestrial scientists” and was briefly notorious in 2002 for claiming to have cloned a human. The Portland event takes place at 11 am in Tom McCall Waterfront Park between Stark and Oak Streets. Men, woman and god-like aliens are invited.

It’s about time someone did this.. No matter what the tight ass republicans say, I think, specially on this very hot beautiful summer heat, we should have the right to take off our blouses.. Isn’t it better to see the beautiful breast of a girl than the discusting falling down breast of a fat guy??? In any case, we should have the same rights! Why is it a boob more dangerous than a gun?? We live in the 21st century! Wake UP!!
In Oregon, you already do. Our public indecency statute only prohibits “an act of exposing the genitals of the person with the intent of arousing the sexual desire of the person or another person.” Judicial precedent in most states doesn’t classify breasts as “genitals,” so shedding your shirt is A-OK.
Its about time UFO cults wise up and celebrate sex rather than demonize it. Heavens Gate would have been more successful if they had not demonized the human body and required their members to get castrated.
I for one am very interested in how this Realian UFO cult will implode when its leader reaches the end of his life or career.
Before saying the topfree equality movement is bad, spend a few days researching it & then decide.
After studying it, if you are an American who is still against topfree equality, you would have also been against the women’s rights movement if you lived in previous generations. For example, you would have been against the Married Women’s Property Acts when they first started in 1839.
I would like to make clear that the word CULT comes from the latin CULTUS which means: “to venerate to adore”. The Raelian Movement is an ATHEIST organization, we don’t worship, adore or venerate nothing, therefore WE ARE NOT A CULT.
I would like to ad that there is nothing wrong with the human body; we live in a very sick society were killing another human being is OK for a child to watch and yet our beautiful bodies are hidden with fear and ignorance.
