The above screen capture (taken from YouTube taking from ESPN) shows Oregon tailback LeGarrette Blount making his largest forward progress of the night.
UPDATE, 5:15 pm: It took 15 hours, but John Canzano did indeed blame us all. “How much of this is about entitlement?” he asked on the Bald Faced Truth radio show, during his second hour discussing LeGarrette Blount’s season-long suspension. “Is the school at fault? Are we all at fault? I’m not sure.” Honestly, it’s a wonder that man can get out of bed in the morning, what with carrying the weight of our sins.
UPDATE, 2:05 pm: James Pitkin has the word from Eugene: LeGarrette Blount has played his last game as a Duck. Rarely has an Oregon season imploded so quickly.
So the Ducks’ season-opening loss to Boise State was almost entirely forgettable, but the post-game pleasantries with the opposition, the opposition’s fans, teammates, nearby security guards… well, that was all pretty memorable, and raises some pressing questions. Such as: How long will LeGarrette Blount be suspended? Was this his last game as a Duck? What did Byron Hout and the Broncos’ fans say to incite him to such rage? Was race a factor? (Maybe that’s undue speculation and not germane and no excuse for his actions and blah blah blah, but on the other hand? It’s Idaho.) Who will John Canzano blame? (All of us? Probably all of us.) Is this the end of the white jerseys?
We don’t have any answers. George’s Corner Tavern had no answers, either, though the “It’s Idaho” theory received early support. We leave this discussion in your capable hands.

Err, BSU has a large number of Black players. The “it’s Idaho” theory doesn’t hold much water.
My “the Ducks are once again over-rated theory” does.
George’s Corner Tavern is in the middle of the block, you moron.
It most certainly is not.
It’s Boise, not Idaho. Boise cherishes diversity. Whatever Hout said, I’m not defending, but it was NOT race-related.
Good game, Ducks. I truly hope you win the Pac-10…(without Blount)..
I think your comment is racist. Boise is a very open and warm place to live. I am from a more diverse area on the east coast and am always shocked by the comments made about Idaho. The Idahoans are welcoming and accepting. Really a shock to see such a comment without knowing the facts.
The dude is juiced up. It’s obvious.
Ummm…anyone thought of just apologizing to the good people of Idaho from the good people of Oregon for the lack of character shown by the Ducks (or more appropriately A duck player). This really is not about anything other then a bad event by one guy. It is not much bigger of an issue then that.
Sorry to Boise State and the fans. You deserve better, and congrats for your victory. Your team did an excellent job of containing the Ducks.
Race related? come on guys! The ducks got spanked! What else is there to say? What the hell? Race related? This is football! A boise player could of done the same thing! And really hout should be punished also!
It’s Idaho?! As an Idahoan I have two words: Suck it. hahaha But seriously, I grew up in Idaho and thanks to the beloved BSU Broncos diversity is actually celebrated there compared to when I was a wee lad. And if you are going to gloss Idaho as racist (which you did!) at least try to remember (or learn?) that the racist groups were up in the northern part of Idaho some years ago. There is simply no way to make an intelligent correlation between those white supremacist groups and Blount going Chernobyl last night because the Ducks got beat again, and on national TV. Sounds like sour grapes meets a weak attempt at being provocative. Idaho as “racist?? hmmm hmmmm” just isn’t the point. But if you let bar patrons write your post for you, or at least, if you fail to distinguish your opinion from theirs… “It’s George’s! Make mine a double!”
I posted some closer range video of this (captured by fans) in the favorites section of my Youtube channel in case you want more information about what happened. It looks like the Sports Illustrated cover jinx is still a factor for the self-destructing Ducks. http://www.youtube.com/luddite333
I agree with the “the Ducks are once again over-rated theory”. I hope this game is a prime example of the sucky ass season to come. Go Beavs!
Hout said something about the “ass whoopin” comment. You can read his lips on the video coverage.
As a person who lives, and raises her children here in Boise, Idaho, your statement about “racist” Idaho, is repugnant. I lived in Oregon for 20+ years, moved to Idaho 2 years ago, and the people in Idaho, are genuine, compassionate, accepting and friendly! The behavior by the Duck player, which I watched live, was unacceptable behavior, period. He is representing Oregon. Let’s just forget for one second, this Duck player was trashing Boise State all week long. Watching the BSU player, tap him on the shoulder pads, and with a smile on his face–for all we know, he said, hey, good game, man. Why is everyone presuming he was trashing him? The BSU players come to St. Luke’s Childrens Hospital on a regular basis, and they are polite, friendly young men. So to lump, Boise and Idaho into the same category as the Duck player, who, by the way, should of been arrested, is simply WRONG.
[...] Or maybe we knew ye too well after last night’s suckerpunch of a Boise State player. [...]
“Was race a factor?” The last resort of the pedestrian, hack writer mind incapable of both original thought and original writing.
wow.. can’t believe WWeek went there by pondering whether race was a factor and then followed it by the implications that Idaho is a racist state. Are you guys that desperate?
Blount’s mouth wrote a check his ass didn’t cover, and in Sports Illustrated, of all places. And, yes, according to Hout’s girlfriend’s sister, Hout said “How about that ass whuppin’?” Which is fitting. A reply, made on the field of play, by a Boise player demeaned by Oregon, their fans, and from Blount’s mouth. Not worthy of a sucker punch.
Blount scored two points for Boise State. He hit a team mate, really. Mr. Vertical went horizontal the whole game, and has none to blame but himself, and then he exacerbated the whole deal after the outcome was real. That is the Junior College pedigree showing itself. Oregon and Oregon State do a lot better with team deportment when they stay with high school recruits and bring them up in a peer directed system. My opinion.
I think the stadium full of Boise fans was very moderate considering the circumstances. If that had happened at Autzen with a visiting team player throwing the punch mindless Duck fans would have stormed the field and caused a all-out stampede. The forgiving fans in Idaho prevented a disastrous outcome. They have much more class than rabid Duck fans. You should do a poll about how many Oregon fans were glad to see the punch thrown. The people I have talked to in Eugene were stoked to see it.
To suggest that the entire state of Idaho is populated by racist, pudgy, pink, mother-loving, thumb-sucking, football-worshiping hillbilly hayseeds suggests that you don’t know the first thing about Wyoming.

Pretty good, even-handed ESPN article. Kelly gives reason for hope. I was at the game but only saw the ruckus on the scoreboard (about 8 times, and only the punch). Typical crowd: mostly pleasant folks, with not-so-pleasant hecklers on the edges. The more camera angles I see, the more sympathetic I am to Blount. He shouldn’t have done what he did, but I can see now how he got there. It wasn’t “roid rage.”
