Welcome to Retail Therapist. Sink into my couch if you want. Comfy, isn’t it? I got it at Hive Modern. It’s sort of Bob Newhart meets Bauhaus, right? Anyway, as I was saying, Retail Therapist is Willamette Week’s new blog about style, design, Portland retail, and miscellaneous things I like. It’s a place where you can keep up with what’s happening on Portland’s shopping streets and indulge in a little shoe and design porn while you’re at it. I hope you find something you like.

Why start a retail-centric blog in this economic climate? Well, there’s never been a more important time to separate the wheat from the chaff. I want to help you spend your dwindling funds more creatively and support Portland’s dynamic, independent retail scene. We’re incredibly lucky to live in a place with so many cool places to shop, and I want you to know about all of them.

I know, I know. Many of you have mixed emotions about consuming—whether you do it as a means of self-expression and entertainment or whether it’s out of necessity. This blog respects those of you who grapple with these feelings. But this blog wants you to know that our ability to mix it up in cute shoes, a striped shirt and a straw fedora is also what makes us human. Since some amount of consumption is inevitable, I aim to help you enjoy the process. And for those who don’t experience any guilt around consumption, this blog salutes you!
