TWATCH 2008: OMT—Time to get your ’stories’ in to win autographed Twilight prize!

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

IMG_4760
I’m waiting.

Here it is already 2 pm on Wed. and NO ONE has submitted their best fan fiction based on Twilight to win an excellent array of Twilight-esque prizes and tix to the only local screening of the teen vamp flick (it’s on Tuesday, Nov. 18).

What do you think? I’m just going to give away AUTOGRAPHED items from Twilight to the first person who drops by the office?

I don’t think so.

So pony up kids. That includes you TwilightMommies. I know how much you despise me, but it’s time we buried the hatchet and started getting freaky about Bella, Edward and even dear old Alice. Speaking of which, did you see The New York Times featured Ms. Cullen in a Twilight-inspired Halloween fashion piece in last week’s Sunday “Style” section?

I guess Willamette Week wasn’t the only one that thought that was a good idea.

So if you want to go to the screening here’s what you have to do:

WIN TICKETS: If you just want to win tickets to THE ONLY TWILIGHT SCREENING in Portland go here.

SUBMIT A STORY TO WIN A PRIZE PACKAGE: If you got what it takes and want to submit your best fan fiction then go here.

Or you could just go the Twilight inspired “prom” at the Viewpoint Inn and “dance where they danced…” But, ouch, it costs almost the price of a regular prom ticket.

Twilight Prom At The View Point Inn

November 20th, 21st. Admission $47

Price Includes: Admission to the Prom, a movie ticket to a midnight showing of Twilight, Food & non-alcoholic beverage, Twilight T-Shirt, Twilight Poster and a copy of a never before seen photos from filming. Call 695-5811 or e-mail admin@theviewpointinn.com for reservations.

I’ll Take “Keep Portland Weird” for $500, Alex: Former WW Copy Editrix to Appear on Jeopardy Tonight!

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Margaret Seiler
Mama-to-be, office Scrabble organizer and former Willamette Week Copy Editor Margaret Seiler makes her game show debut on Jeopardy tonight, at 7 pm on Channel 2.

We have absolutely no idea how she did on the show, but we do know she does get to hit the buzzer and give answers in the form of a question.

If you want to join us in Margaret’s fan club and root-root-root for the home team, we’ve been told she is going to be setting up camp at Sam’s Billiards on Northeast 41st Avenue. Win or lose, Margaret, you’re still Ms. Smartypants to us!

Until then, enjoy this brief musical interlude:

Wendy and Lucy Trailer: My NoPo Neighborhood Has Never Looked So Sad

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

wendylucy
The trailer for Kelly Reichardt’s new film shot in Portland last year, Wendy and Lucy, is up.

And it looks amazing—amazingly sad—that is.

The lonely image above (it’s a screen grab from the trailer) was taken in the parking lot of my local NoPo neighborhood Walgreen’s.

The whole trailer reminds me a lot of Gus Van Sant’s earlier work. I can’t wait to see it.

But for now, here is the trailer:

TWATCH 2008! Willamette Week to Give Away Tix to Exclusive Portland Screening of Twilight!

OME.

That stands for “Oh My Edward.”

And if you know who he is (he’s played by Rob Pattinson, pictured above) you’ll definitely be screaming it at the top of your lungs now that Willamette Week is spilling the beans that we’ll be the only newspaper giving away tickets to the ONLY SCREENING OF TWILIGHT IN PORTLAND.

The screening will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

We’re still not sure how we are going to distribute our limited allotment of tickets. Fan fiction contest? A costume competition? We’ll let you know.

But as soon as we figure it out, you (and all my favorite TwilightMOMS), will be the first to know.

Until then: OME! OME! OME!

UPDATE: SHE WON!!! WW talks to the Winner of Project Runway, Portland’s own Leanne Marshall!

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

projrunleanne091208

UPDATE: It’s 10 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 15 and Leanimal…oops…excuse us….Leanne Marshall has just won Project Runway. And, frankly, she deserved it. A couple of days ago WW talked to Leanne Marshall. At the time she wouldn’t give up the big secret, but when she said she was moving to New York, well….we’ll just let her speak for herself. Below is our previous post and her interview.

Congrats, Leanne! I guess nice people sometimes realy do finish first:

The buzz around the fashion world is that Portland Oregon’s very own Leanne Marshall just might do the impossible, and become the next winner of Project Runway.

While we will have to wait until Wednesday ( 9 pm, BRAVO-TV ) to see if Leanne actually wins the whole thing, you don’t have to wait to hear what she has to say about the show.

In an telephone interview with Willamette Wee k from her cozy Portland apartment prior to returning to New York for the post-finale show, Marshall talked to us about getting recognized in Portland, why she is relocating to New York, how she’s a bit tired of eating grilled cheese sandwiches, who should be the next Portland designer on Project Runway , and what designer best “moments” didn’t make the show (Kenley really is that bratty).

Here is WW’ s interview with Leanne Marshall (you go, Leanne!):

Got MILK Tickets? Gus Van Sant’s movie premiere promises very special guests.

MILK

As if things won’t be exciting enough at the upcoming premieres of Milk, a bio-pic about the life and times of slain gay civil rights icon, Harvey Milk, Tina Brown’s brand-new The Daily Beast is reporting that the actor who plays Milk, Sean Penn, will be bringing along a few very special guests to the film’s opening at the Castro Theater in San Francisco on Oct 28. One guest who says he is going in Portland’s Mayor-elect Sam Adams. Another guest is none other than self-described “peace mom” Cindy Sheehan.

Sheehan states in her post:

I am really excited to see the upcoming movie MILK, about San Francisco political legend Harvey Milk (out this month.) Harvey Milk is not only a hero for the LGBT community, but he was a real champion for the people. Running for Congress in San Francisco against the most powerful democrat in America, I have an awesome admiration for his courage to challenge the machine. Plus Sean Penn, who plays HM, has asked me to be his guest to the premiere – how can I not be excited about that?

As for the local premiere of Milk, the word is a that at least one of the stars of the film plans to attend the “Red Carpet Debut of Milk to Benefit Outside In.”

In celebration of Outside In’s 40th anniversary Van Sant will host a red carpet debut of his latest film to benefit the homeless youth organization. Taking place November 14, 2008, the Portland Milk debut will occur at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall. Van Sant will deliver personal remarks to the crowd of 2,700 at 8:30 pm. A patrons’ dinner and director’s reception for 250 event sponsors will precede the screening.

Tickets for the Milk red carpet debut are available for purchase online (via Ticketmaster) and at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts (PCPA) box office (1111 SW Broadway). Prices range from $37.75-$71.75. Due to strong interest, advance ticket purchases are recommended.

For more information about Outside In, please visit www.OutsideIn.org.

TWATCH 2008: Twilight Final Trailer is Here (and so are my pics of the set where it was shot)

Friday, October 10th, 2008

TWILLLLLLLIGGGGGGHHT!!! You can almost hear the deafening sound of one billion virgins screaming that across the globe.

That’s because the "final" trailer for that film , which is going to be unleashed on audiences Nov. 21, is upon us.

And, guess what, a big chunk of that trailer, comes from the spot where we recently shot our Fall Fashion cover for Willamette Week and I spent some time on the set for this story .

Here are some photos I took earlier this year on the set of Twilight:
IMG_4603 IMG_4601 IMG_4609 IMG_4608 IMG_4622

I am very familiar with the area because, after high school, I used to climb out to the EXACT spot where Bella and Edward are in the tree and try to figure out my own life.

If you ever have the chance, you should check out the area: it’s GORGEOUS!

Que Sera Cera: Movie Star (and Arrested Development icon) Michael Cera Spotted at Northwest Crepe House

Monday, October 6th, 2008

MC_4a_54-Cera
Although he’s quickly becoming dead to his biggest fan at WW (due to his refusal so far to appear in the film version of Arrested Development ), Michael Cera , a.k.a. "George-Michael Bluth" was spotted last Friday night at Northwest Portland’s most happening creperie, Le Happy.

No reason was given on why the star of the much-missed cult TV show—as well as Superbad, Juno , and this weekend’s third-biggest release Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist —was in town. But word from those who spotted him chowing down at Le Happy is that although a few people asked to get a photo with him, Cera was generally left alone in the super-small restaurant. Oh. La. La.
Here’s a reminder of why Michael Cera is and must be George-Michael Bluth:

Trouble in Portland’s Tinseltown: Disembodied Disemboweled?

Friday, September 19th, 2008

brett donowho

Looks like the credit crunch is taking its toll on Portland’s film industry.

Disembodied, a supernatural thriller directed by former soap star Brett Donowho (pictured above; he used to be in Port Charles) was to begin shooting in September in the Portland vicinity.

It would have been the second time Donowho has done a Portland-based project (in 2005, he produced the feel-good drama The Music Within).

But three sources familiar with the project tell WW that production either is being suspended or already has been suspended, for reasons connected to the financing. WW was unable to obtain confirmation or comment from the production office after several attempts, though an assistant assured us a production representative would contact us by the end of Friday. We’ll update this post with any comment or further details.
